Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 295 hitter against rightys is s***?
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 sorry i would take that all day with gold glove defense and the lack of strikeouts and stupidity on the field.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 295 hitter against rightys is s***? What was the quality of those hits? Adam Dunn .238 Avg >>>>> Ichiro .320 Avg
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 So far only one respondant believes James Loney is Toronto-bound. Other possible destinations: Brewers, Rays, Rockies, Twins, Nationals, White Sox, Pirates, Mariners. An interesting assortment. Replacement level players play a replacement level teams.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 you also have to take into consideration that Loney was an everyday player last year, whereas Lind was platooning quite a bit. If Loney was platooning his stats would look a lot better as he is a 220 hitter against lefties. WTF? He hit .299 against lefties last year and is a career .256 hitter versus them.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Lind hit like a motherf***er against the righties; He's a lethal weapon in the right hands
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 sorry i got stats mixed up .299 career avg vs righties .256 against lefties so not to bad. The guy put up a .348 obp which is acceptable.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Lind hit like a motherf***er against the righties; He's a lethal weapon in the right hands The only problem is the way this roster is constructed your not going to be able to get a proper platoon mate with derosa there.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 yep .286 against righties .219 against lefties. The back of Lind scares me, he had a really good year this year, but i think it's time to sell him off and get a little something for him.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Lind 58 wRC career vs LHP, loney 83 Lind 125 wRC career vs RHP, loney 113 It's really not that big a difference overall, but clearly both of them are no better than a platoon bat that should only face RHP, and if that's the case where you're going to get a lefty masher platoon partner, you might as well stay with the guy who hits RHP better.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 solid pitching and defense is what wins championships. I didn't know Tim McCarver posted on this board.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Lind platooned with a good right handed hitter with EE at first will be more productive overall. The question is will AA find a solid right handed bat that can mash lefties? If not,i would prefer Loney as our everyday first baseman with EE DHing 75-80% of the time. EE scares me when he has to start a DP.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 You seriously believe that decreasing projected offensive output by 10-15% so you can try to add 5 runs to your 1B defense is a sound strategy? Like a great baseball mind once said, "you can't win simply by outscoring your opponent."
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Bottom line is this team has to increase its baseball IQ and improve its defense before anything else. Lind being primarily a LH DH shouldn't damage the team much, because he's as dumb as a stump. If the likes of a DeRosa or equivalent is our RH DH option, then i'd rather have Loney's baseball IQ and solid defense combined with a .290 / .340 type line drive bat in the line up everyday at first base.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Is Gibbons the right hands? Gibbons isn't Maddon but he's a good manager. I respect him as a manager (old school but modern) http://d3j5vwomefv46c.cloudfront.net/photos/large/775077997.gif?1369599903

Good job!!
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Too bad Rajai is gone because this problem was already solved this year. Except when you have an 8-man BP and an injury-prone team where both Davis and Lind have to start...doesn't get implemented.
