Ferrin and Duquette talked of the Jays chances of going from last to 1st next year. Slim

Said if they didn't get some pitching, could easily see them in last again. :-(

Said that AA would deny it, but Ferrin said that he definitely had heard from other sources, that Bautista would be available for the right pcs. Pittsburgh or St. Louis would have the best players to offer.

Talked a lot about Encarnacion, and said that the rest of the league didn't really appreciate how good he has been.

Josh Johnson was the biggest disappointment to the club. They were shocked at how poorly he pitched.

Said that the Jays would be in on Santana and Garza, but not Tanaka.

Kept promoting JPA was going to be on air to talk about Jays, and he cancelled at the last minute, supposedly because he was packing to go to Europe. Strange.

FWIW.

Bautista, Cecil and Goins and Osuna for Wacha, Carpenter and an OF prospect

Pretty obvious. Everyone knows that pitching was the major weakness of the jays last season.[/quote

Pitsburg would be a great fit if they shipped out Bautista. They can give a great package without having to include Tailon.

They would also have to suck up the embarrassment of having given him away in the first place

The Jays gave away Michael Young and Jeff Kent too. No embarrassment there.

Isn't it a different GM? Would bring a whole different perspective to it.

The Michael Young trade? Yeah, that was incredibly embarrasing.

True. Every team has guys they regret dealing away. It's just part of the game.

Bautisa for Wacha and Taveras.

Most likely it would prob take a little more. Goins and Pillar most likely.. Deck as the throw in

Zero chance Wacha gets dealt after his post season performance. STL could just re-sign Beltran and get comparable offensive production anyways.

Prob so. If they lose Beltran then they're looking. They can't afford to lose that bat and replace with Jay. And they can't back on Taveras just yet.

What starter might they deal for an OF slugger?

I think in the end AA will realize that the best way to make this team better (short of spending money on free agents) both for the short and long term might be to trade one of Bautista, Encarnacion, or Reyes. These three have the most value on our team, and would bring in the greatest return. If we're looking to fill our holes in the rotation, catcher, second base via trade (which AA has said will be his primary avenue), and you don't want to touch the roster, you're probably looking at trading Aaron Sanchez, Marcus Stroman, Dan Norris, and more. If you trade Bautista, Encarnacion, or Reyes however, you would be freeing up 14mm-16mm in salary and likely adding 2-3 good young pieces, at least 1 of which should be ready to contribute right away.

Hypothetically:

Bautista to Cardinals for Miller/Wacha + Wong/Carpenter

Use the payroll flexibility to sign Ruiz/Choo + Tanaka/Garza/Santana/Ubaldo

Texas for Holland + Odor

Use the payroll flexibility to sign Ruiz/Choo + Tanaka/Garza/Santana/Ubaldo

Pittsburgh for Walker + Glasnow

Use the payroll flexibility to sign Ruiz/Choo + Tanaka/Garza/Santana/Ubaldo

Arizona for Prado + Skaggs + Miley

Use the payroll flexibility to sign Ruiz/Choo + Tanaka/Garza/Santana/Ubaldo

You're not getting any of those pakages for Bautista. The closest you might get is Prado + Miley for Bautista + Cecil.

The Pirates would absolutely do Walker + Glasnow for Bautista.

I wonder if the Jays could try going after Rosenthal and convert him to a starter. He should be able to considering he was a successful one for his minor league career.

Could he possibly come cheaper?

Wacha vs Rostenthal? Hard to say.

I think the Cardinals would value them similarly, but either way, they'll be hella expensive.

Most likely Wacha is more expensive, because he's showing that he can be an effective Major League starter and is over a year younger .

Of those packages Miller + Wong/Carpenter (doubtful it would be Miller + Carpenter) please

Really? Those are two seriously awesome pitching prospects.

Neil Walker the 2B, not Taijuan Walker who pitches for SEA... I wouldn't trade Bautista for that package though.

At the break there was talk of Bautista for Profar+. But can't remember who was talking about it, but he said that it was a rumour that he believed, but couldn't track it down. Obviously, just talk. But it was out there.

Hah, wrong Walker bro. I would trade Bautista for Taijuan + Glasnow as well but not the Neil one.

Better chance at landing Chapman from the Reds (as a conversion project) IMO. I can't see STL trading Rosenthal unless you pay up as if he is a future starter (same with the Reds and Chapman) and that isn't a trade i would make with STL. Both do have the stuff to start though IMO.
