My time is lacking right now but I really want to do some numbers for the players that left our org last year in comparison to their numbers from when they were here. maybe over the holidays

Yup. If you take out all of the s***, it becomes:

Henderson Alvarez

Yunel Escobar

Jake Marisnick

Justin Nicolino

Noah Syndergaard

Travis D'Arnaud

For

Jose Reyes

Lol... when you put it this way.............. f***

I'd like to add I didn't like the deal from the beginning, but was told to sit back and enjoy it.

We were going to win in this 'window'. Here we are one year later and that window is already closed, and now we're f***ed.

Yes but chances he puts up a 6+ ERA are 0.01% essentially, or less.

Your number is absurd and not at all realistic. You are saying its 10,000+ to 1 he has an era over 6. He hasn't pitched nearly 10,000 seasons ( lol ) and he's already done this once now. But the risk analysis doesn't require an era over 6 anyways. Johnson could get hurt, he could pitch bad, he might just pitch ok ( like a decent 3rd or 4th starter ). These are all real risks that have to factor into his value. Is there a 50% chance he pitches like a $16M pitcher ? Or a 75% chance he pitches like a $12M pitcher ?

The Jays would have been foolish to pay say $10M for Josh next year ( $14M forget it that's lunacy ) when they have a cupboard full of

injured pitcher projects and need a starter with a high likelihood of lasting the whole season. Padres can maybe afford to gamble where the

Jays can't, and/or need to gamble because of their budget. So might be a good move for them but likely would have been a bad move for the Jays.

Dickey's still an asset. He should be above average pitcher on a decent salary for two years.

"Should" it's not a result and it's not translated into victories.

one year of Ace-caliber guy + 1st round pick for 8 M......nice deal

Sure is.

I would have loved to have him at that. My guess is given same offer from 3-4 teams including Jays he would still go to SD. Makes a lot of sense for him.

I'm going to hold you to it. These trades look f***ing disastrous. AA is going to have to explain things really well in this next job interview when his employer sees that on his resume/track record.

Maybe some of the worst trades in franchise history and set the Jays back another generation.

QO = The only way JJ to stay in Canada. We'll lose him in the free agency.

Life goes on.

I kinda think that we should offered him 1x10 given this information. hindsight is 20/20 of course, but a compensatory pick and the rotation depth and (I hesitate to say this) stability he would have provided would have been legit at that price.

I had to bring it up because I had no idea you owned them until your comments prompted me to check. That DDL bias.

It's a very real phenomenon. It will be studied in future classes about fantasy sports for years to come. They shall call it "The No49 Principle".

San Diego deal

1-26 outings = 8M (If Johnson makes fewer than seven starts, San Diego gets a $4MM club option for 2015)

+26 outings = 9,25M

There is no way he would have signed with us for 1/10. I don't think any amount of money would get him to sign back here. The 14 mil qualifying offer was our only chance.

Yeah you're right he was NL bound all the way.

Shoulda qualified him I guess

I knew someone would say something like this

It does not matter what way you interpret the trades, any way you look at them they will still be s***

Yeah but leaving out a legit pitcher (s*** trade or not) is revisionary thinking.

Posted
It really doesn't matter

It kinda does. You can't just ignore one of the better assets we got out of the trade, because the trade sucked and you hate AA. (Even though those thoughts are both totally justified.)

+1 he should have been qualified for sure. AA did the same thing with Bonifacio basically giving him away instead of waiting until the off season where he could have probably got something for him. Instead he keeps f***ing Rajai Davis when playoffs teams were interested in him and now he walks for peanuts......

Yep. Fat greek sold BoniFiasco on his lowest level and keep Rajai on his higher level; He did the opposite of the Financial Protocol.

Man...it really doesnt matter. You are making a big deal out of nothing. So I put the trades made last season into the worst possible form..who cares? If you really wanted to see what the previous trade looked like, read my posts before. I didn't "forget" about Dickey. Its really not a big deal that you are making it out to be.

If you really f***ing want me to, I can go back and edit Dickey into the post?

We were deceived like Indians. Jays trade gold (TDA and SynderLander) for mirrors (Dickey and s***) like Cristobal Colon Vs the Latin-American aboriginals.

Yeah we can drop it, it's a semantics thing more than anything. Trade sucked totally. Period. That's the end of story. Didn't mean to cause you so much angst.

This needs to be resaid, just because Johnson is officially gone now.

Blue Jays Receive

Emilio Bonifacio (1/2 season, very s*****)

Josh Johnson (16 s***** starts)

John Buck (traded to Mets)

Mark Buehrle ($19 million #4 pitcher, aging)

Jose Reyes (overpaid by a lot, great offensively, poor defensively)

+ $8 million

Marlins Receive

Henderson Alvarez

Adeiny Hechavarria

Yunel Escobar

Jake Marisnick

Jeff Mathis

Justin Nicolino

Anthony DeSclafani

Blue Jays 1 year later

Jose Reyes

Mark Buehrle

lol

I liked this trade when it first happened. We gave up a lot but it looked like we were getting a ton of good pieces back that would help us compete.

Right now, I think this will end up not only as one of the worse Blue Jays trades ever but one of the worst trades ever in MLB. This is right up there with Cliff Lee, Brandon Phillips, Grady Sizemore for half a year of Bartolo Colon.

or TDA and SynderLander for Dickey?

Posted

It's even worse when you take into account that this trade made the Dickey trade feasible in the eyes of those in charge.

If those two trades were one, then I could see it as one of the worst trades in MLB history.
