O.K. not much information to put in opening post for something like this but here's is some genuine, bonafied speculation from Heyman:

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24171261/jays-unlikely-to-make-qualifying-offer-to-jj-josh-johnson

"The Blue Jays are said unlikely to make the $14.1 million qualifying offer to right-hander Josh Johnson, though a final determination apparently hasn't been made. The need for starting pitching is such that even Johnson's off year (2-8, 6.20) wouldn't necessarily deter them. He's still only 29, and he's a two-time All-Star and former ERA champion with the Marlins. What's giving them pause is that he finished the season inactive -- though he's said to be healthy now.

Johnson was shut down with a strained right forearm and missed the final few weeks of the season, but agent Matt Sosnick said Johnson will start throwing in 10 days. Sosnick also said, "he's 100 percent healthy."

With no draft choice attached to him assuming no qualifying offer is made, he might be able to get close to the $14.1 million as a free agent."

QO = The only way JJ to stay in Canada. We'll lose him in the free agency.

I know exactly what I want but it won't happen. I want JJ on a 1 year deal, with about 7-8M guaranteed and 4-5M in health incentives.

If he's good, that's a great deal for the Jays and allows him to get that big contract after next season. It could be from us with a mid season extension, or could be from someone else in which case we will qualify him and get a draft pick.

If he sucks again there was little sunk cost

Well presumably there is some negotiation going on right now and I would think a pre-deadline deal is still possible but if he isn't Q.O.ed or signed by the deadline it's sayonara. Once thing that's unclear to me is whether or not that's desirable. I'm leaning towards yes.

The sad part is that i truly do believe that JJ liked the city and playing for Gibbons. I'm sure his agent has convinced him that with all things being equal that a one year deal in a pitcher friendly park is the best route for him and his family.

Giants decline option on Ryan Vogelsong - Ryan Vogelsong

buy low. Good bye JJ

I was just going to suggest that SF Giants might be the best gig for him in 2014

Looking for Jays news on Twitter, can't help but notice how many hot latina women tweet at Jose Reyes all day. Wow. (O_O)

Edit: On closer inspection some of them are NOT so hot.

OK, I need to get to work. LOL

Despite enduring an ugly 2013 campaign marred by injury and ineffectiveness, free agent right-hander Josh Johnson is reportedly piquing the interest of "more than half the teams in Major League Baseball," the hurler's agent told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

The 29-year-old is resolved to take a one-year deal to rebuild his value after posting a 6.20 ERA over 16 starts this season, an idea that appeals to many teams with a need for starting pitching.

'Everyone needs pitching, and Josh has the most upside of anybody on the market,' said Sosnick, who also represents free agent Ricky Nolasco and pitcher Randy Messenger, who is currently deciding whether to accept a multiyear offer to remain with the Hanshin Tigers in Japan or return to the big leagues to pursue a starting job.

Crasnick notes the general consensus is that Johnson will not receive a qualifying offer from the Blue Jays, allowing him to hit free agency without draft-pick compensation attached to him. Johnson underwent surgery earlier this month to remove "loose bodies" from his right elbow, and is expected to be ready for spring training.

'You're going to see the market for starting pitching drastically change this offseason,' Sosnick said. 'There are very few teams that don't need a middle-of-the-rotation or better starter, and there's almost no starting pitching available through free agency. I think people are going to be blown away by the market for starting pitching.'

Other teams won't sign him if we offer and he declines

A team with a protected first round pick might not mind

Offer 14.1M? -- decline 14.1M?

We must think in JJ as an one year option (QO or 1Y-deal) and he (injuries) don't deserve 14.1M.

The Saga Jays-JJ is over for this season, we'll see him in the 2015 FA, when him will want 90-100 millions.

No matter... I'm sure his agent does NOT want him lingering with no deal and the draft pick compensation red flag all off season

If he's given a qualifying offer he will accept

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'd actually be ok with AA giving JJ a qualifying offer.

I'd rather that than him accepting a 7-8M base plus incentive deal elsewhere.

A team with a protected pick could. I could see the Twins, Cubs, Astros and Mets getting involved.

Is it worth losing a second-round pick for 15 outings?

Can't see us giving him a Q.O. If we were a little bit closer I would say yes but J.J is not going make or break us so I say save the money and go fishing in the Free Agent pool.

Garza 15, Ubaldo-Ervin 13.5, Tanaka 13 over JJ 14.1

This Sosnick guy is more full of s*** than most agents. More than half the teams in baseball? Lmfao, get lost.

In a vacuum I don't love it. But even in a good market, I wouldn't be so confident that AA can find better value for the money and this is actually going to be a pretty bad market. It's a choice between the mediocre option we know and whatever other mediocre option AA might bring in instead. Even though I don't think Johnson will provide surplus value, I'd actually be kind of relieved if he was Q.O.ed because the alternative is probably bringing in someone equally underwhelming and trading prospect depth for the privilege.

I think QO is the way to go. Pitching market is THIN. JJ has upside. It is another arm in the mix for a starting spot. and believe it or not i think $14m will be cheap compared to what some of these mediocre free agent pitchers get this offseason

It's only money. It's only one year. Those are the selling points for me.

One question I think you have to ask is can we do better for less or the same amount in free agency and I do think there are better options out there.

I don,t see this happening. The QO would bring us very close to the 150 mil we hear as budget. If AA offers a Q O then that would tell me he has more money
