JaysFan4Ever Verified Member Posted November 4, 2013 Author Posted November 4, 2013 Silver lining - AA might actually trade some of his relievers to address positional needs instead of the other way around. If he does flip some relievers to get some help, good help, fine. The problem is if this is the kind of guy he's going to replace those relievers with it's going to cause a weakness there. If this is someone signed for organizational depth, minor league deal, someone to eat some innings during an overworked pen or injury, fine. If he replaces players with garbage it's going to hurt the team. With all the relievers and potential relievers, there isn't a need to add garbage to the 25/40-man roster. Minor league deals are never a bad thing but if he's going to go after a reliever for a spot on the roster, especially if it's to replace relievers that are going to be moved, they better be better than replacement or trash.

Not all your relievers need to be ace relievers. You can have some just average guys as long as they don't get the high leverage innings. We'll get farther with an average bullpen and a good team than the other way around. We had a great bullpen in 2013 and it didn't mean anything cause the team sucked. Bullpen is arguably the only area of depth on the team. If the team had the means to sign whoever the f*** they want, they could keep the bullpen the same but the team doesn't have that luxury so some of the bullpen depth should be sacrificed for the greater good.
