connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Sure, pretty much all teams have question marks.Especially teams with as much turnover as the Jays had. There probably wasn't one person on here picking Boston for the world series in 2013 and they had as much or more turnover as the Jays. It took a lot of things to go right for them. Not the least of which was a bounce back season from pretty much their entire starting staff. Like a lot of people on here I think Alex made a critical error not addressing the catching situation. Other than that I really didn't have any problems with how the team was constructed. Add Carlos Ruiz this off season, maybe see if you can get Davis back, see if you could pry Kinsler out of Texas and I think this team has as good a chance as anyone in 2014. The big difference being Bos didnt mortgage their farm to make a run or commit to any long term franchise sinkers if things went bad
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 Add Ruiz, sure. Davis no. Gose fills that spot comfortably, Kinsler, sure, what do we give up? Finally we're all convinced that Gose will be 4th OF and Rasmus is a stud. Gose learned what he had to learn in the minors, his hit tool is and will be 4/8.

Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Why are we trading away one of our good bats in Rasmus, if the plan is to keep Arencibia? Where is the production going to come from outside of EE/Bautista and if we're lucky Lawrie?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 Im not convinced he's a stud, he is solid but i wouldn't be afraid to trade him away if the right offer came. Rasmus 24 years old - 4,0 WAR 26 years old - 4,8 WAR (6,1 WAR - 150 games) Adam Jones 24 years old - 1,6 WAR (2,0 WAR 150 games) 26 years old - 2,5 WAR Ellsbury 24 years old - 1,3 WAR 26 years old - 2,1 WAR

TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Lets just hope DeRosa doesn't crack the line up and refuses to go to Buffalo and retires. 750K isn't that bad to sacrifice on a vet as insurance in case there are some infield injuries. I would be f***ing floored if DeRosa cracks the 25 man. AA can't be that retarded, can he? once again...if you are convincing a guy not to retire and take your contract you don't cut him. They are paying him to face lefties (which he isn't terrible at) but the annoying thing here is that they don't realize that there are probably guys in their own minors that can actually play D and hit better against lefties. So essentially they are paying him to babysit Lawrie again
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 So essentially they are paying him to babysit Lawrie again True but at least this time he has re-established a minimal amount of skill. Last year he was coming off two abysmal potentially career ending seasons.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 True but at least this time he has re-established a minimal amount of skill. Last year he was coming off two abysmal potentially career ending seasons. which is completely wiped out by his declining defense and declining speed. He had to put up an .810 OPS against lefties to squeak above replacement level. When he doesn't repeat those numbers (which he won't) and the defense and running decline further due to age...he'll be at least a full win under replacement level with equal PA's next year.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Rajai Davis is NOT going to be back
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 He is a weapon off the bench yes, but when playing the game of baseball he is a liability.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 He is a weapon off the bench yes, but when playing the game of baseball he is a liability. He will get a full time position and cost some poor National League team 20+ runs on defense and they won't even see it coming...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 At least Gose can play defense. Like, REALLY play defense.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 There is no point in spending $5 million on Rajai Davis next season with Anthony Gose in the fold. The Jays are better to save the money and address other areas on the roster.

The Jays are better to save the money and address other areas on the roster. Agree. I've said a dozen times on here that I really like having Rajai as 4th OF and pinch runner. But he's a free agent for the first time, he had a decent year, and some team will give him 3-4 years at 4-5M per (because they think he's a poor man's Jacoby Ellsbury) and we won't be the ones giving it to him.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Going with Gose instead of Davis further intensifies the need for a GOOD right handed bat on the bench. Someone better than DeRosa.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 It has to be Gose or some other cheap option if he gets traded which I doubt. His team needs to focus on a new catcher, 2B and either 2 solid SP or 1 significant SP.

I don't think Davis gets a 3-4 year deal. Likely a 2-year worth at (4-5 M per like you said) + an option.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Arencibia + Jimmenez + Osuna + Stroman to Milwaukee for Gallardo + Lucroy?? not close
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Would they even want Lawrie back? They also have Ramirez at 3B. Lawrie would do it. Worst comes to worst they get rid of Aramis, he has value.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I'd be surprised actually. They've already moved him once, and Lucroy may be a better player. I don't think we get him and Gallardo for Lawrie. wait wait wait straight up? No. I mean that if Lawrie was the key in a larger package for those two then I could see them taking it. Lawrie + Stroman + ____.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Lucroy projects to be a 3 WAR catcher, with 4 years of control ,on a cheap contract. Probably more than that with framing.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 i still feel like the phillies would take jpa off our hands, maybe we could get darin ruff off them.
