theblujay Verified Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Pretty much everyone was better than expected. I guess that's what it takes. Just take a look at those BABIPs...
leaffie Verified Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 The only good thing is that finally this nightmare season will be over. Hopefully, everyone can move on from how wonderful that saviour Farrell was.
theblujay Verified Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 I've never liked baseball less than I do right now. It's been a steady decline since the beginning of the 2012 season.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 Yep Credit to the team/players/organization They were the best team in baseball start to finish this year, no doubt They had the balls to dump the overpaid "stars" who weren't performing They made smart FA signings They fixed the bullpen They got a bit lucky with health They play hard all game every game Farrell was adequate. I find it hard to hate him TBH. No ill will. Good job.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Its just going to make me sick how American media outlets like Fox and ESPN will be praising Farrell and how he lead them to a World Series.

havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 They deserve it but now we're going to have to hear all Winter about how Farrell is the sole reason they turned it around in Boston.
theblujay Verified Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 I had a couple Boston fans tell me in April that they weren't excited for the season at all, and that they didn't care because they were going to be so bad. Of course I was telling them how bad Farrell was, and now they think he's the best manager ever. It must so nice/easy to be a Boston fan...
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Hopefully this inspires AA to actually go out and sign FA's..and not trade away all our assets again
theblujay Verified Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Hopefully AA was paying attention to how they added their wins: Victorino = 5.6 WAR, signed 3/39 Napoli = 3.9 WAR, signed 1/5 Drew = 3.4 WAR, signed 1/9.5 Uehara = 3.3 WAR, signed 2/8.5 Dempster = 1.3 WAR, signed 2/26.5 Gomes = 1 WAR, signed 2/10 Ross = 0.9 WAR, signed 2/6.2 19.4 WAR added, $104.7 million committed, no contracts longer than 3 years. One of the best free agency periods ever. As a whole, the contracts have already paid for themselves, and many of the players still have years remaining. We took on almost twice the salary in the Marlins deal, gave up a ton of assets to do it, and didn't acquire nearly as many wins. There has to be a good amount of luck to have all of these guys do so well
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 Reverse jinx? Reverse jinx. Nah man. Not this time.
theblujay Verified Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Victorino outperformed projections. Uehara too. For the most part, they signed good players to short-term deals though. There was no risk. They added talent about as efficiently as possible, and did it via free agency. That's to be commended. They definitely got the players in a more effective way, but just looking at the players compared to the Jays its night and day. Izturis, Boni, Melky, JJ, Dickey, Reyes, Thole, Blanco, Santos, Lincoln all worse than expected by a good bit. The only guy who did better than expected was Delabar.
Jonzo Verified Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Cox gets all the blame last year, but this year Farrell gets no credit?
Caper Verified Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Has a city owned another city like Boston has Toronto this year? The leafs finally make the playoffs after years of disaster and for a few minutes looked like they could make a little run..... then the biggest collapse I have ever seen occured and Boston embarrassed TO.... humiliated them. But that was ok... because the Jays were about to give John Farrell some serious payback.... Could the script have played out any worse? But wait.... what's this? There is hope the Raptors!!! On the same night the Sox complete their dominance over Toronto... the Raptors easily beat the Celtics. Awesome...... Except until next Spring when the Raps stagger into the playoffs and get absolutely humiliated by the Heat. Meanwhile, the Celtics tanking turns out to be a great move for the franchise.... as they end up with the number 1 pick overall..... and take Andrew Wiggins........ THE ONLY star that ever wanted to be picked by Toronto.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 lol what a season. COngrats to Farrell

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Stephen Drew was worth 3.4 WAR this year? Wow, that is surprising to me.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 You going to party hard with Ortiz this week? I've been dodging to the Ortiz's fanboys for the last two weeks. f*** you Alex. I feel so bad right now, i just wanna cry.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Stephen Drew was worth 3.4 WAR this year? Wow, that is surprising to me. Was a mint defender and his bat was good for the position he played at (SS). One of many very efficient signings by the Sox in the Winter.
