Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 We’re not even into the offseason yet and the rumors/hypothetical situations are already flying. One bit of speculation surrounds a trade involving Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista. Toronto has indicated a willingness to listen to offers on Bautista and fellow slugger Edwin Encarnacion, and Mark Simon of ESPN believes the New York Mets could be a fit. The Mets have made it clear that they want to be contenders sooner than later. They play in a division that looks a lot weaker than in recent years. The Atlanta Braves are strong, but there are questions surrounding the Philadelphia Phillies, Miami Marlins and even Washington Nationals. Bautista would fit the win-now mold the Mets seem to be casting. He’d add another impact bat to the lineup, and Simon believes he’d pair well with third baseman David Wright. In order to acquire Bautista, ESPN’s Jim Bowden guesses that it would take a package including Jon Niese and two prospects, one of which would have to be Cesar Puello. That’s certainly a high price, but you have to give to get someone the caliber of Bautista. While Bautista proved extremely durable from 2010-11, he’s only played in 92 and 118 games over the past two seasons due to injury issues. There have to be questions surrounding his ability and durability moving forward, as his OPS has dropped over the last three years from 1.056 in 2011 to .856 in 2013. http://sportsinjuryalert.com/mets-rumors-should-ny-pursue-blue-jays-jose-bautista/
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 Syndergaard, Wheeler and Puello
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Bautista for Travis D'Arnaud. LOL
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 The more I think about it the more I think AA might (just might) pull the trigger on a Bautista deal this winter And I'd be fine with it *IF* part 2 of the plan is landing Choo or equivalent The problem is we're more in "win now" mode than the Mets. Not an ideal trade partner.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Syndergaard, Wheeler and Puello How high are you on Puello?? Also, we would only get 1 pitcher in any such deal
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 The Mets themselves aren't all that high on him, according to Baseball America: http://metsmerizedonline.com/2013/10/baseball-america-mets-dont-really-consider-cesar-puello-a-prospect.html
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Syndergaard, Wheeler and Puello Yeah, lets do that one!

Not an ideal trade partner. No he won't. It would be a PR nightmare. This is a guy who is trying to save his job. The last thing he's going to do is trade the face of the franchise.

My god, the world might end. Yep Most of us believe that two of the main reasons AA went "all in" last year were: 1) Bautista is going to decline soon and 2) The AL East is weak right now Well, the AL East is not so weak (there's just a different super power) and Bautista may be declining in front of us. (even if not, he's now missing tons of time) Suddenly trading him makes more sense if you can get a mega return, but at the same time our GM might care more about keeping his job and keeping fans happy in the short term

It cost Syndergaard and d'Arnaud for Dickey last off season, it's going to take more than that to land Bautista.

Better yet hes going to trade the face of the franchise for a guy who has never thrown 200IP and a fringe guy in AA. f***ing Jim Bowden.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Yea Bautista's going to be traded for not even close to the package Dickey brought in..
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Yea Bautista's going to be traded for not even close to the package Dickey brought in.. Yep He's only getting traded if it's for a package including (at least) a high quality MLB starter and a Wil Myers level OF prospect. Otherwise why bother.

Otherwise why bother. I don't mind the idea of trading him. He is on a very friendly contract for what you get and he is going to be in the early stages of a decline. I would want a top end you MLB pitcher plus a TDA and Synder. Even then I am still thinking more could be added lol.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 That said, I don't think he likely has any more 8 WAR seasons left in him
GNick Verified Member Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 http://sportsinjuryalert.com/mets-rumors-should-ny-pursue-blue-jays-jose-bautista/ No, I wouldn't deal with Mets again. Not so soon anyway. We got royal rip-off last time. If deal Bautista want AL players coming back. That way have WAY better idea just what we are getting.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 It's rumours over here in Canada ANG?! WTF!! Excuses for my Spanglish cut and paste
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 For Alex it would, unfortunately. There's no way he sells unless he were extended. As we know, this ain't happening. I fully expect AA to go into full on panic mode. Which is trade Sanchez for an overpriced POS. I am not excited about the future of the club but I am a little excited to see what kind of s*** AA works himself into. I think AA knows this and most fans know this. If he does not make the playoffs next year I think it is bye bye time for the fat greek.

But if a team wants to succeed long term, the GM has to identify that time and move the asset. Keeping the asset around for old time's sake is not an option. We should've traded Bautista when he was 30 and dominating the league on a team friendly contract.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I truly want to believe none of this were true, but.................. I am hoping it is not true either, but I can't help but see this is where it is headed and I am personally a little frightened.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 Just schooling you brah.......lol. (jks) rumours, no rumons; Favourite, no favorite.

We should've traded Bautista when he was 30 and dominating the league on a team friendly contract. There are still some stupid managers who overestimate the dingers. Someone with equal or lesser intellectual capacity than Alex thinks that Bautista is an elite player right now and could overpay for him. Huntington, Moore, Amaro, Zduriencik, Daniels (Garza trade?) the Blue Jays fans are counting with your help.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 yeah i see the mariners doing something stupid this off season, i would call of jack z.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 I wouldn't put Huntington in there.......besides his Navy Seal regimen ********, he's been pretty efficient, and has built a solid young club, with plenty of guys coming up the pipe-line both in position players and pitchers. They have a bright future. Daniels has done the same but .....................He failed in the Garza trade. Huntington is a good candidate to mess up (Taillon or Polanco and Alen Hanson)
