Dickey not really. Morrow maybe. I don't expect Buehrle to be as good.

I think we can expect buehrle to put up around the same numbers as this year. *IF* morrow can ever stay healthy, i think he can be one of the front of the rotation guys we are looking for. I love the idea of peocello for jannsen, as i think hes a potential #3 arm going forward. Anyone interested in signing lincecum?

Kyle Drabek's Steamer: 7.07 K/9, 4.00 BB/9, 0.80 HR/9 ... 4.11 ERA, 4.06 FIP.

There's the #3/4 starter we're looking for!

I realize Kyle has been a dissapointment so far in his career but why does everyone want to just give him away. If he could ever get some kind of control hes a very very good pitcher. That is a big if though. Why not just keep him in buffallo and see if he can find some consistency

Can I get a guarantee on that? :)

I don't get it either, and reports from this year seemed to indicate that he's made good mental improvements. His walk rate during rehab this year was fantastic.

Yeah I still think Drabek has a chance to become something. His walk numbers were manageable in the Minors, so there's reason to believe he can perform better than the 14.3 BB% rate from his short MLB career.

Its just baffling to me that people would be willing to just throw him into trades like hes a complete write off. Still could have something there

I'll go out on a limb here:

Kyle Drabek will have more value as a major leaguer over the next 5 years than Ricky Romero will

Yep. I've been as down on him as anyone, but I like what we heard about him, and saw from him the year, on top of a high baseline talent level.

Drabek = 0.3 WAR

Romero = -0.1 WAR

Hahaha

I'm hoping it's more like 12 WAR to 0 (ie. Drabek is actually good and Romero never plays)

I just can't handle occasionally getting my hopes up for Ricky and then being disappointed time and time again

Rick Porcello's Steamer projections: 7.45 / 1.55 / 0.67, for a 2.94 ERA, 2.96 FIP. We HAVE to get this guy.

I'm down

And the Tigers need bullpen help

We can make it work

Drabek strikes me like the type of guy who can get really hot/consistent and go on a tear for a few months and make a difference.

1.3 BB/9 in decent amount of innings in the minors last year... Polar opposite of his previous two MLB seasons.

It's 100% between the ears with this guy.

He has nasty stuff. I'm curios what Jamie Evans can do for his arm, hopefully he'll be on the field next year.

I'm on board, just make sure Gibbons goes with Goins, Reyes and Lawrie in the IF during his starts to support that GB rate.

I wonder if Lawrie 3B Goins SS Izturis 2B Reyes DH on Porcello starts might be better not only for Porcello's GB rate but it'd also give Reyes a little rest every once in a while.

If Izturis is really as bad as he was this year, you'd gain nothing by doing that.

Ya, in that scenario there should already be a starting 2B that is getting rest...

I have a hard time believing that a generally positive defender goes from ~2 defensive runs to -11. I think he'll rebound in the field.

Alternatively when he starts you could move Bautista to 3rd and go with a 5 man infield with Gose and Rasmus in the outfield. Would be an interesting experiment, especially if Porcello keeps the high gb rate with 7+ k's.

I wonder if there's ever been a good study of astro turf and why certain fielders struggle with it while others strive? I remember back in Tony Fernandez's day, he was known as a great astroturf fielder, someone who in theory wouldn't be as good on grass. Whether there was any substance to it or if it was just media ******** to dismiss his abilities is not something I know although the later seems likely.

That would be ballsy and awesome especially if Gose is on the team and you could get him and Rasmus to cover the whole outfield. I would love to see s*** like that but without Butterfield around, it would be a small miracle to see the shift again much less something this radical. I would go to a Porcello start just to see this if it were real.
