If the JAYS could get him from the Nationals without giving up a lot I think it would be worth taking a chance on him. It would be even better if we could get a package deal of Ramos and Espinosa.

I'd definitely take a chance on Espinosa. Has some pop and speed and is still young. He strikes out a lot though.

K% has a low correlation to wRC+ last I checked. I dunno, it could work, he just wouldn't be my primary option.

He's one of the best 2B targets out there, in terms of potential value. Back to back 3+ win seasons before his disaster 2013. Still just 26.

Not sure if the teams are a good fit though.

There's survivor bias in there. Guys who strike out a lot but don't hit for enough power aren't given playing time. Espinosa has some pop, but not enough to overcome the .230 average that the strikeouts limit him to.

The sabermetric idea is that strikeouts aren't any worse than other outs. But they can lead to a player making too many outs overall, which is what you have with Espinosa. His defense does make him a half-decent player though.

The sabermetric loves the K's for pitchers, but doesnt for hitters.

We're talking about a premium defensive position. Espinosa is a slugger, He offsets his high rate of strikeouts with extra-base pop (~ .160 ISO). We could easily get a 2.5-3WAR (13M) season from him.

Buy low

1-Ackley

2-Espinosa

3-Gordon Beckham?

I agree, I think he's a great buy low option and I'm sure the Nats want to move him. I'd have no problem at all with Espinosa at 2B. Even with his bat, he'll likely bat 8th or 9th in the lineup anyways. Keep Goins as insurance in Buffalo.

Espinosa would be better defensively.

Totally agree and Esinposa is certainly OUT in Washington and I doubt he costs much . Did he have the shoulder surgery ? not sure ?. Still I want to keep the talent in the minors and still get 2 starters and a catcher first.

I think AA should be made to stick with the starters he overpaid for. If he can get JJ to agree to a 1-year deal for less than the QO, that's fine. If he can sign Tanaka, that's fine. However, to me, he already "addressed" the pitching last offseason, he just chose poorly and I wouldn't trust him to just trade away more prospects for starters when he traded so much already. If he could trade some bullpen arms for to fill one of the other holes, that would be ideal.

I'm wondering if the falling out in Washington was Espinosa's refusal to have his bum shoulder operated on? Seems he felt that strengthening the shoulder was the best alternative.

Never thought of it that way .I wasn't sure if he had finally had the surgery or not . You may be right . Didn,t call him up in Sept.
