I don't like the idea of buying low on risks in a ridiculously important year that we're supposed to contend in, but if we don't have other options or we have "a transition year" Danny would be nice.

The thing is, the team will need bounce-back seasons from several key positions in order to contend, both in terms of health and performance, so for this reason I don't mind a guy like Espinosa although I'd rather just spend money on an Infante or KJ, but we don't really know how much money is really available.

Wouldn't it be great if people weren't enamoured with windows of opportunity to contend?

For sure. And it would be even better if the team wasn't run by people who believe in these windows of opportunity.

Wouldn't it be great if the Rays moved to Montreal?

Yeah but what better reasonable options are out there instead? Cano is not coming here, I doubt the Jays go after Infante, and trading for Phillips wouldn't be that ideal. Ackely and Beckham fall under the same category as Espinosa, and to be honest I'd probably prefer Espinosa to those two anyways (it would be a close call between him and Ackely though).

If the Jays could get 2-3 WAR out of Espinosa next season, I'll definitely take that.

If we end up shafting 2B and filling C and SP1/2 with our money, Espinosa would be fine at 2B in that case. Just shouldn't be a main acquisition imo.

Not sure why you guys are discussing this when we all know that AA has already called Melvin about Weeks. At least it won't cost him a prospect. Moises Sierra for Weeks...book it.

Which one of the 2 Weeks? The bad or the awful?

Mets get Jose Bautista for Montero, Matz, and Plawecki...we close? Bautista's injuries have to be concerning.

You're not close. You're playing the delusional Mets fan.

I'd trade Bautista straight up for Latos. They've been equally as productive over the last two seasons, only Bautista is entering his age-33 season and Latos his age-26 season. Latos is also arbitration-eligible after 2014, so we'd have a chance to lock up his age-27 to 31 seasons in the offseason, maybe add an option year or two. Now would be a perfect time to exchange Bautista for a core building block that can be here 5+ years.

This would be nice. I'd probably ask for one of their catchers, though. I don't think Mesoraco is particularly valuable anyways so doesn't matter a whole ton. Latos and Phillips would be like a 3 win upgrade over Bautista (4.5 and 2.5 versus 4 off the top of my head).
