Add another to the walking infirmary. lol The Toronto Blue Jays’ longstanding interest in left-hander Brett Anderson hasn’t disappeared, even after an injury-plagued year. Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reported Thursday that numerous teams are interested in acquiring Anderson from the Oakland Athletics, particularly the Blue Jays. Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I'm fine with pursuing Anderson if the price is heavily discounted, but I can only assume Beane will rape Anthopoulos.

I want Jose Fernadez Ryans Goins + JPA + Moises Sierra + Kevin Pillar + Deck McGuire + Chad Jenkins + Josh Thole

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 If Brett Anderson gets to the Jays, his career will be all but over.

This is exactly how I feel as well. I'd move a guy like Pillar and some filler for him but, I wouldn't be willing to give up an elite prospect for someone who is very likely to be injured most of the season.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Really, Brett Anderson can't be worth very much right now. Just one more year of control and he's literally never held up for a full season. But I don't really see the depth in Oakland for them to let him go for cheap. Parker Gray Straily Anderson Griffin Milone Colon is a FA and they probably won't retain him.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Colon is the far better target.

The Anderson's price dropped considerably; Hutchison and/or Drabek are better and cheaper option.

It's an excellent package, Loria will not hesitate to push the button. Ryans Goins: Best defensive 2B MLB JPA: top-5 catcher Moises Sierra: Three-Digit Hardthrower reliever Kevin Pillar: Right-handed Tony Gwinn Deck McGuire: Top-rotation guy. 5 Above-average pitches Chad Jenkins: Mid-rotation guy. Pitchability Josh Thole: Comes bundled with RA Dickey.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 This is going to go pretty much exactly as expected. We'll give up a crap ton to get him cause AA, he'll pitch decently before going down with a torn rotator cuff and needing TJS, and pitching maybe another 30 innings in his career, and we'll chalk it up to "whoops injuries."
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 8M for a guy who has pitched 160 innings over the last 3 years. Just LOL

Blown shoulder and elbow in the same season? Doubt it. Ill take that bet though Haha Edited October 18, 2013 by DuckDuckGose posting from a phones is hard
Chappy Community Moderator Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 This team needs more Durability. If were going to go this route, then AA better sure as f*** bring in another arm that has a good health track record.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 LOL Maybe we can line up all the Rich Hardin types in series . Morrow goes 10 starts Anderson 10 and McGowan finishes . Meh , None of them would make 10 starts

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Should go in the Goins thread I'd think I actually meant to post it on the Around Baseball thread, but I don't know how it got here. oh well, herpa derp
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Should go in the Goins thread I'd think We should just have one thread titled "Baseball"

I'd take him. He's under the artificial Bautista cap salarywise. We'd have the best middle infield combo in the East, and possibly the American League.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Yes but do we want a headcase of a player? I don't think he would enjoy playing in Canada, let alone turf. Him and McCann certainly won't get along.

I think i would....Rasmus is going to get expensive soon and Gose can provide plus value even if he doesn't hit much.

Phillips is probably a little bit of a safer play, but considering ages here, there's a chance that Phillips is done as an above average 2B while Rasmus is just getting started as a consistent above average CF. I could go either way on it. I think I would lean towards keeping Colby, maybe just because of a "devil you know" type of thing. Also, Phillips is a douche and I like Colby.

Our team is full of douche's though, so he would fit in quite well. 2nd base is such a black hole for this team and if it costs Colby for a legitimate 2nd base i say we do it and roll the dice on Gose.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 I think I would keep Colby but that's based on gut more than anything.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 I don't mind Brett Anderson as the No. 5 starter since we all know his upside when healthy. Though I hope he's not the only arm brought in to solve the rotation problems. The Jays more than anything need a durable No. 2 starter who can give them 200 quality innings.

I guess I'd move Colby for Phillips but, it would require pursuing another OF'er in FA. I'm not sure if that would be a lateral move or an improvement for the Jays. IMO it'd be better to just go after FA's instead of giving up assets for yet another player who just signed a big money deal. IMO for this trade to really work it would take the Reds adding a pitcher (one of Bailey, Leake or Cueto) to the package and the Jays sending a shitload of talent Cincinnati way. Cueto would be the prime target IMO as he would come much cheaper than Leake or Bailey.
