Opening Day payroll: $146.85M

Interestingly specific.

I'll go $158.35 because f*** y'all, that's why.

I said 150 mil. Rogers ponied up last offseason big time when no one saw it coming. I think they'll up it a bit more to try and put a winner together.

Is it "closest without going over"?

If so I'll go 145.86

Otherwise I say 150

I voted for a 20 million dollar boost. Isn't every team getting an additional $25 million in revenue sharing this year.

Yes. But 40% of that goes to Beeston's cognac and hookers habit.

I used $150M for the offseason roster thread since I feel it's a safe bet, but I really think it hits closer to $160M. AA and Beeston are going to try and sell the notion that they are close to contention and I really believe Rogers anti's up. They went in so deep in one winter that I just can't see them backpedaling just yet. This is it for AA and he knows it.

I see a lot of the replys are as stupid as some of the suggestions of how to rebuild the team. Since the method AA uses to fix the roster is totally dependent on the amt of money AA has is I thought this would be interesting.

Vik , I'm sure Beeston will push for a huge increase but I'm not convinced Rogers will anti up that much . AA has talked trade and I think it is because he needs to trade salary too

It's possible Ken, but I really think the money will be there, especially with all that added revenue all the teams will get. Rogers will look at what makes them more money next year and winning will do that. This team still has tremendous growth potential at the gates and a $25M increase and some more star drawing power will only help that cause.

This is do or die here and this team is a mess. One more shot is all AA will get and unless he is confident he can move substantial payroll, he is going to be pleading for a significant payroll bump.

Those people are living in a fantasy land.

Washington seems set on Ramos as their COTF. If only it was this offseason that Minnesota was looking to deal him.

I really think Ruiz is the guy. GD is right.

Yeah, Ruiz would be a great fit.

1. Sign Ruiz and trade for a starter

or

2. Trade for Ramos and sign a starter

Either fine with me. But I'm afraid to hold my breath cause I'm worried he won't go that far.

Ruiz, Tanaka or JJ 9M+Option, Edinson Volquez or Scott Baker, Jose Dariel Abreu or Jeff Baker, Alexander Guerrero or trade for Ackley,

I see a payroll boost of at least 20 million. I figure AA knows he's gotta do everything he can to salvage this roster/his job and Rogers will give him that chance.

Already suggested but I do see Carlos Ruiz signed on a 2 year deal and JPA traded as part of a bigger package to get a impact piece. I'd imagine to Texas (Kinsler) or Chicago White Sox (Sale).

My thoughts exactly. AA is going to likely go into panic mode now that he has depleted our farm and was no closer to making the playoffs. I think he knows if he does not do something big this season his job is defiantly going to be reviewed.

However in my head I don't like the thoughts of a scared AA because I am fully expecting something stupid this offseason.

Ervin Santana 4 years @ 16M per year level stupid?

Or trading every useful piece left in the farm for Nolasco stupid?

I love reading the suggestions here and how people seem to believe that substituting Ruiz for JP and adding a #3 starter is somehow going to add us the 20 wins needed to sniff the playoffs.

I've never been less optimistic than I am now as a Jays fan. We need everything to go right for us in '14, like what happened for the RedSox this year.

Trading away the rest of the useful pieces left in our farm for mediocrity kind of stupid.

I think people are TOO down on the team to be honest. If you think the team is really as bad as they were this year, then its time for despair because we aren't getting a tremendously better roster for a few years.

I for one don't think the team is as bad as it was this year. I think we'll see some natural regression toward the mean. With some roster improvement, I can see us being competitive.
