G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 7, 2013 Author Posted October 7, 2013 Judging from the Shields trade, if they move Price they'll be looking for a big fish. I doubt that they'd even consider Sanchez to be such a prize.. Agree. He's no Wil Myers.
Nox Verified Member Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Jays would have trouble scraping together 100 decent cents, much less 200. They dont have blue chip pieces to play This is true.
Nox Verified Member Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Do you expect Price to continue to perform well like Shields did or are you expecting a drop off (I realize that park factors, team defense and strength of schedule can't be accounted for in this prediction but I'm curious about what your general expectation for him going forward is)? All things considered (like a proper innings projection), I don't think you should rationally predict more than about 3- 3.5 WAR from Price going forward. So, that's obviously a good pitcher still, but I agree that he's probably not an elite elite guy. Velo drop being the biggest concern. Steamer captures that drop. I'll be interested to see their projection for him next year.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I would probably do that but I have a feeling if Texas offered Profar+ we'd be blown out of the water. Well that's the thing. It's not about putting together a fair offer. It's about putting together an offer that in the Rays' eyes surpasses what anyone else can offer. The former is possible, the latter is unlikely without a top prospect to offer.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 That's why I'm not worried about us AA getting raped by Friedman & Co. If we get Price it'll be for a reasonable return, since there's not enough in our cupboard to overpay with. I'd do Sanchez + Stroman + more. Lawrie + Sanchez + Rasmus + Stroman + Edwin is technically possible in the strictest sense of things and that irrationally scares me.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Well you can use the strictest sense of 'possible' to assert absolutely anything. That package is probably not going to be on the table. I suppose AA could do a three-way of some sort that involves Sanchez, Stroman and Edwin or Bautista departing for Price. That would be scary. Lawrie and Rasmus could probably be used to get ripped off though. It's certainly possible we do something ridiculous.

Talent-wise sure he is a fit but, the Jays can't give up the assets to land Price and be a WS contender without spending well beyond a projected payroll of $150M (+$30M from 2013). Talent needs to be found, and added, another way.

TBH I wouldn't give up much more than Rasmus + BP Piece + a ball guy for Price. He's about to get paid big money. Pitchers get hurt all the time and he isn't that good (he's definitely a top 20 guy in the MLB, just not a perennial CY guy IMO).

Trading Lawrie opens up such a huge hole that I can't see it happening. AA has made some bad trades but all with the idea of adding to the team not just robbing Peter to pay Paul. Rasmus on the other hand is going to get expensive soon and Gose should be able to at least play CF which makes CF as close to a position of depth as the Jays had. Rasmus, some of the relievers, Hutchison or Morrow: those are the only guys I think AA would sacrifice from the Major League team and you have to figure his first choice will be to sell his remaining name prospects, Sanchez, Stroman.

Didn't we negotiate Pineda for Lawrie a while back? I remember that being on the rumor mill, only reason I even bring it up.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 15-20 teams would kill to get Edwin Encarnacion just by himself. Let alone in a package.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I think the Mariners demanded Lawrie but were told he was off-limits. Ya and they got Montero...

Pretty sure Tex would offer Profar+ and there would be lots of other teams interested. Price is worth a Lawrie + Sanchez/Stroman type of package IMO. However, I'd rather avoid dealing in the division and there is no heir apparent to replace Lawrie. Pass.

I could ALMOST see the Rays willing to do a multiswap involving Longoria and Lawrie just cause of the $$ I think they expected better revenue this year and they may be sweating his contract a bit. But he's so awesome...

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 No. Just..... no. Ya Longo is just too good. I could see them flipping Lawrie for something that fits better though.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Brett Lawrie is easily worth more than David Price. I don't even think it's a debatable topic. Ok, I mean "worth" more. Real baseball isn't exactly a rational market.
