ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 those trades sold tickets so probably wouldn't lead to a firing in any market in the world. Value is a thing. A player very similar to Hech was traded for a top 25 pitching prospect who was major league ready (talking about Gregorius for Bauer, while Bauer has been bad he still has more upside than anyone the Jays got and is not expensive if he doesn't reach his potential). Escobar it's forgivable to deal cause he was done with this H.O. no matter what. We'll say his value was what the Marlins got for him which is still a 2B better than Boni. Henderson Alvarez is a ground ball machine who will thrive in that park. As I said at the time he'd outperform JJ and Buehrle together over their time with the Jays (watch out when he starts K'ing more the 6 a game which despite the lack of history I believe he will do). Marisnick I was huge on at one time but I still think he's got to improve the K rate to be successful but still has a lot of potential and put himself back into legit prospect category. Nicolino is a deceptive lefty type that I really think would "get caught up to" in a second go around in the majors but if he can give them one good season in Florida it still might be better than what JJ did. But you're right the rest of the guys are nothing I agree with everything you posted, I would just point out that time frame is an issue to be considered. I viewed the trades with the Marlins and Mets as a change in the time frame the f/o was looking at. They decided to speed up or force the time frame for whatever reason, be it wanting to sell tickets or lack of patience. I didn't like the trades from the beginning, but I don't think they were purely based on baseball decisions.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 The Toronto media loves Dickey, they wouldn't ask him any tough questions. ? You must be joking. If you're not, then I have no clue why the media should ask Dickey anything about a trade HE DIDN'T make.
EdelweissBouquet Verified Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Alvarez > Buehrle bro Hech/Escobar > Boni/Izturis Get your head out of your ass LOL.. get back to your sandbox little boy. Alvarez better than buehrle... hahahaha, maybe sometime in the future..but in this present day real world .. no way.

It was almost non lose for him with the buzz it created. I didn't like the deal and would have rather saw many smaller deals but if I was running this team it would still be a below .500 team and probably averaging 10K less a game (maybe more if I had enough power to make it less child friendly of an environment around the park...first 15,000 fans get Blue Jays clit rings night). The Dickey deal gets a lot of the hate but from a pure value point of view it looked better than the Marlins deal...I thought it was complete overkill though. They had on paper improved the team with the Marlins deal, I thought that even if they didn't believe in Syndergaard and TdA as much as I did, that they should wait and see where the team was first before getting rid of all their depth.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Uhh... I would take Alvarez present day who has a future ahead of him rather than old man Buehrle who has a huge ass backloaded contract All you have shown with your post is that you are an ignorant ****. I am not a little boy, I sold my sandbox a long time ago I would take Alvarez today, but it's close. I would take Alvarez for coming years, and it's not close. You had a sandbox? Lucky
oakville69 Verified Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 It will be interesting to see attendance next year. Much of this year's attendance is a result of hype, flex packs, etc. I do wonder about next year's ticket sales. I renewed my flexpacks before the big trades. I believe many people bought flexpacks to get tickets to the home opener.
oakville69 Verified Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Well they might not sell as much in the off-season as this year. But if the team players better next season attendance will go up naturally. Another big trade which is likely to happen would probably help the hype machine once again. I expect significant changes. Who gets traded? Romero? I could see AA signing Rasmus to a long term contract. Jays need a better catcher & 2B. I could Lind being traded after his contract is picked up. Melky moves to DH.
oakville69 Verified Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Everyone know's he's overpaid...but he's a guy who puts up 200 innings and should put an ERA of 3.8 to 4.2....he's a bit over that..but I still expect him to be in that range for the time that he is here....he provides a level of certainty and you were taking that on to get Reyes and Johnson...Johnson didn't work out...Reyes did....and they did get cash... I could give a rats ass....what Rogers is spending...I'm still waiting to hear who the Jays are desperately missing....Escobar? Hech? Alvarez?...give me a break.. I think the trade showed Jays fans that Rogers was willing to bump up payroll to 125 million range which make it comparable to other big market franchises. For too many years, Jays fans had to hope that the prospects hype machine would work out. It didn't , so I would rather build the way AA did. If the Jays could develop talent like the Rays or A's. then it would be a different story , but the Jays have not shown an ability to develop home grown talent yet

Pretty much agree, especially with the bolded part. I also thought as part of my objections to the trade, 'why not wait to see how the team is playing before trading away your 2 or 3 best prospects'?. We all knew they needed to revamp the rotation with the TJS to Hutchison and Drabek plus Romero's implosion so they got 2 starters in the Marlins trade, but anyway, the rest is history. AA also turned the catcher position from a position of organizational strength into one of weakness especially with JPA as the starter. Anyway, we'll see what they do this offseason.

I almost find going to the games to be a burden, given my Dec. expectations, tho I hated the RA trade and loved watching Hech. On defense. I think many bought the packs in order to have access to playoff tickets. Unless there are some changes, I can't see attendance being stellar next year.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 which Jay traded away in the Marlins deal is going to come back and haunt the Jays...seriously...which one. Reyes is a great player...Buehrle is solid.....and no one was posting about Johnson being a terrible additions when the trade was first announced... Your asking this question to someone who has a life size sex doll in the image of Jake (not so handsome) Marisnick. Move on..

I have owned flex pack tickets for 3 seasons, so I was thinking about getting playoff tickets. I did reserve tickets for the season finale against Tampa because I thought they would be clinching a playoff spot that weekend. With new paradigm of Jays spending a minimum 125-140 million in 2014 , they should be able to upgrade the rotation, 2B & Catcher.

Nope, guess again. Due to backloaded contracts and upcoming arbitration raises/re-signings, it's going to take around 140 M just to keep this current roster. Enjoy.
oakville69 Verified Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I didn't know much about RAD last December. I thought it was weird that AA would go after a 38 year old knuckleballer. However, he was the best available potential free agent ( 1 year at low $$) on his contract). It's obvious that AA went all in for 2013, & hoped having Dickey, would be the cherry on the sundae to guarantee a playoff spot.
