EdelweissBouquet Verified Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 If they had Escobar at SS, Reyes at 2nd,K Johnson in LF, Molina and J Buck catching, and Snider on the bench ,and with the rays and jays swapping with each other their entire coaching staff at the start of this season?
BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 I doubt the coaching staff would make a difference to the pitchers, but your probably looking at 9-10 more wins with those moves I would guess.

You realize this scenario doesn't even make sense.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 You realize this scenario doesn't even make sense. The only thing that was hard to prevent was the Escobar trade, I wonder what the equivelant to him in our org that Miami would take? The others kinda makes sense: Resign KJ last offseason Keep Buck from going to the Mets (I'm sure this could have been prevented. You'd think Alderson wouldn't pull the plug on getting Synder+d'Arno for old fart + meh catcher + AAA backup catcher just cuz Buck wasn't included) Resign Molina 2 offseasons ago Don't do the Lincoln-for-Snider But where would this put Arencibia? AAA? Miami? Edit: just reread, wtf, why would the Rays swap staff with the Jays?
BabbaGanoush Verified Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 You guys are missing the whole point, this is not about the validity of this happening, its about the outcome. Just how much better would it make the team.

Just how much better would it make the team. Then can't I say where would the Jays be if we traded d'Arno for Latos, Traded for Goldschmit, and signed Cespedes + Puig? You got to have validity in posts like this, or else they become fantasies than rational situations
Ehh Verified Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 lost it at snider on the bench I LOVE YOU SNIDER
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 What if our pitchers had performed like they were supposed to?

They would be in last place. Staring pitching is the killer.
AuntieJPA Verified Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 They would be in last place. Staring pitching is the killer. ....if they had not traded Syndergaard and D'arnaud!! Now they would be a reason to buy tickets, especially Noah. Worst AA move by far
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 What if our pitchers had performed like they were supposed to? You're right. The team went out and completely revamped the starting rotation. In fact, right now, all 5 starters were acquired in the last 12 months or so. They just haven't performed like many expected them to. Even the harshest critics on this board picked them to contend for a playoff spot even if they now act as if they didn't. I remember threads in the MLB board where people discussed the starting staff as a top 5 or 10 in MLB. I disagreed with the trades, including the Happ trade, but I did pick them to win between 88-92 games which would put them in contention.

Save Dtieb Verified Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 I'd expect them to be the exact same, if not worse. Starting pitching is the culprit this season.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 They would be on fantasy island.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Well, we nearly didn't do the Miami trade because of Jeff Mathis and Emilio Bonifacio, so you never know. I thought about that But Alderson was obviously smarter than AA for taking our top 2 prospects for Dickey, it can't be physically possible to kill off a deal that will jump your farm ranks because of a 30-something year old catcher when you're not contending yet
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Buck was a negative asset, we probably forced him onto the Mets. Another hypothetical I'll add is trading for Shields instead of Dickey. That's realistic and would have made a massive difference. Trading within the division though? I would think the Rays take the KC package over the Jays

But why we didn't just stop after the Marlins trade and assess the team before making a Dickey type trade was ridiculous.

The coaches.. was just an after thought Edited August 12, 2013 by EdelweissBouquet
