theblujay Verified Member Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I went to the game tonight in NH so here's a quick report. Stroman: Sat consistently at 92-93 with his fastball. Velocity did not seem to drop off in the later innings which was good. He threw a bunch of nasty sliders around 84-87 and got a good amount of swinging strikes. I only saw maybe 1 or 2 sliders that he left up. He throw a couple breaking balls around 79-80, whether it was a curve or just a slow slider it looked pretty good. I didn't see him throw many changeups, but he might have thrown 1 or 2, it was tough to tell exactly what it was from where I was sitting. Out of the 8 hits he gave up 3 or 4 were choppers up the middle that could have been groundouts with better defense. He did give up some hard hits though, and gave up a double of the top of the wall that was scorched. He got a lot of groundballs and for the most part kept his fastball down in the zone. His was really fooling hitters and most of his Ks were with the slider. Burns: Hit a double of the very top of the wall after fouling off 4-5 pitches to stay alive. He didn't do much at 3B, but looked pretty good at the plate. Jimenez: He wasn't tested by baserunners, but looked solid as always behind the plate. He hit hard opposite field double and a single. He also had a deep flyout to center.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I was in Erie tonight watching Erie vs. Trenton (missed Syndergaard who is going in the next series against Erie). Had 4th row right behind the radar gun and David Phelps was charting the game right in front of me. Really liked the way Nik Turley pitched but he barely hit 90 on the legit gun once. Gary Sanchez was the biggest prospect in the game and had an up and down game. Hit every ball hard, then when I had a great angle filming him he got nailed by a pitch. In the bottom of the 9th, with Trenton up by one Slade Heathcote fires a ball at the plate and nails the runner by 10 feet. He runs into Sanchez who doesn't even come close to covering the glove with the right hand (maybe something that the Yankees told him to protect) and the ball flies loose. They lose the game on the next play with another throw to the plate and the left fielder air mails home and Erie wins. I have a lot of pics and video but my hotel is brutally slow with the upload.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I took a few shots in Fenway last week. Saw Saunders get lit up for Seattle agains Workman. Best street burger I've ever had on Yawkey Way before the game too.
