Caper Verified Member Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Sanchez for Morneau imminent Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2 Just curious. Where did you send your message from?
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 28, 2013 Author Posted July 28, 2013 Nothing screams "Blue Jays" more than an aging one-dimensional Canadian bat who can't actually hit anymore. He won't help the team at all, but imagine the optics! Morneau is basically equal to Votto in AA's eyes.

Your mom's room Nothing screams "Blue Jays" more than an aging one-dimensional Canadian bat who can't actually hit anymore. He won't help the team at all, but imagine the optics! And for the low, low price of $6m!

We can also discuss what we think the Jays will do. Nice idea but I doubt you can corral the usual anti-Jay fans who think this board is their facility to slam the Jays, propose what AA will do then slam him for doing it ( not that he's done it ), and free wheel some absurd "sell the team become the new Cubs" fantasy/nightmare. On your topic, I would hope they move some middle relievers and free up some roster spots. I'd love to see Johnson/Bonofocio/Oliver moved out for anything. My guess is if they do anything bigger it might involve some combination of Delabar/Lind/Davis/Rasmus. Delabar strikes me as the kind of guy having a great year that might attract serious interest at the deadline.

Believe it or not, a rebuild does not have to mean "becoming the new Cubs." Again, this team is in last place with a staggering payroll and a depleted farm. Selling is the only logical thing to do.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Jennifer knows something we don't know Goodbye Cecil This is so infuriatingly vague like that god damn Rudy Gay tweet. Ugh. I'm mixed on trading Cecil.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 LOL, Boston is in TB beginning Monday. Cecil for Boagerts!
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 29, 2013 Author Posted July 29, 2013 Out of all the top bullpen members I would probably most want to keep Cecil.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Out of all the top bullpen members I would probably most want to keep Cecil. Agreed. I think he has the highest likelihood of maintaining a high level of performance out of Loup/Delabar/Janssen/etc. He was a 2 win SP at one point. He was an extremely good pitcher before his dead arm crap and now he's basically a starter-level talent pitching in the bullpen (as he should be FTR). But on the other hand, you gotta think someone would give something real nice for him.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 I would trade Cecil because he probably brings in the most value out of everyone. Someone will think he can become a starter where the Jays have already been down that slippery slope and have failed. Selling him at a pretty high point for the outside chance he becomes the next CJ Wilson is a risk I'd be willing to take. As far as the tweet I interpret it as her not being able to tell her sister when they will be in TB next as in the Jays next visit to TB, because he might not be on the team then...doubt they trade him to either AL East opponent.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 I'd trade all the relievers This. The bullpen should be the last thing a team builds up once their talent in the rotation and lineup is set. A last-place team doesn't need good relievers as much as they need prospects.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Bullpen Notes: Papelbon, Nathan, Tigers, Padres By Charlie Wilmoth [July 28 at 10:58pm CST] Closer Jonathan Papelbon is dissatisfied with the Phillies' current direction, MLB.com's Todd Zalecki reports. In the midst of an eight-game losing streak, Philadelphia has fallen to seven games below .500, and that's not what Papelbon anticipated when he signed with the Phils. "I definitely didn't come here for this," he said. Papelbon also isn't optimistic about the Phillies' future. "Oh man," he said. "We could be here all day." Papelbon is of the opinion that the Phillies need to undergo an overhaul, similar to that of his former team, the Red Sox (whose overhaul, ironically, included losing Papelbon to free agency). Papelbon says he does not want to be traded, but adds that he does not want to stay in Philadelphia if his team continues on the same path. He's such a douchebag!! What the f*** was he thinking when he signed there? Did he actually think the Phillies would be a playoff team?

What is so absurd about becoming the cubs?? I don't understand since when did young players and modern analytics become such a dirty concept?? When did observing successful rivals become such a bad thing? I admire Tampa Bay, I admire Boston, I admire NY Yankees. Obviously I admire any team that implements a system that results in a high team on base percentage. I admire Baltimore for bringing Markakis, Jones, Wieters, Davis, Hardy and Machodo along (realizing they weren't all from the farm system...). But apparently I am a mindless idiot complainer. I read Bill James, but I shouldn't read that dirty, godless crap. I think this is what is creating so much disruption on this board. Many of the people who are huge complainers, weren't this way 5 years ago. Weren't this way 2 years ago. I understand that people (including myself) express things in such a way that is... overly dramatic I guess. But there is nothing wrong with stating your views. Before we went "all in"... we had 1 million posters complaining about rogers, complaining about young players, complaining how "prospectzzzzz" never made it.. and the team was just fap but no performance. So now we nuke the farm system, and get the veterans that so many wanted... and the team is as bad as ever but no more farm system... but apparently we're not allowed to be disgruntled about that. Just the vibe is sort of... nothing to see here... Rogers knows best, stand in line, drink Bud light. I miss the days of a good farm system, of young players getting better every year, and Labatt's instead of Bud at the ball park. I miss the days where you could throw Cecil Fielder overboard because you literally were developing too many young players.

I think everyone wants a bunch of guys in their early to mid 20s making absolutely nothing (comparably) who put up all star numbers so we can build a dynasty for years to come. However that's pretty much impossible to do. I really do believe that the key to success is what AA was trying to do: build a farm system, use great farm system to supply players to the Blue Jays from call ups or trades, repeat. I think we just got unlucky with the Dickey trade.
