I watched that game. Fielder was forced into action at 2b, where he had no business playing, because of injuries. Gruber played 3b v right handed hitters and 2b v left handed hitters. If they were at double play depth Gruber moved to 2b no matter who was up. It was all patchwork. Mulliniks wasn't supposed to play and ended up coming in at DH while hurt. Something like that.
