32nd round pick of the Blue Jays in 2011

-Never hit below .313 in the minors

-High OBP guy- career .373

-Great speed- career 75 for 100 SB- gets a lot of IF hits because of speed

-Really low SO rate

-Still young at 24

-Plays OF, apparently has good range- plus 15 assists already this year

-Midwest league MVP in 2012

Apparently scouts see him as a 4th OF type of guy... I don't see it but then I'm not a scout? I guess he doesn't have a well defined jaw or hot girlfriend? AA was quoted saying "reports are that he's ready to come if we have a need".

I'd like to see him instead of a crippled Melky Cabrera. At the very least please call him up in September! And please for the love of God no more Gose.

Have you watched him play? Firstly, he's not very fast. He is quick and is a smart base runner. His body type tends to fill out and slow the speed. He has no elite tools. At the plate he's actually comparable to Jim Negrych with more HR power. Now I'm not saying that he's bad because he is pretty good. It's not that he isn't good. It's that scouts believe that he's right around his peak now. For what that's worth.

The same scouts that highly-touted Gose?

Why is his speed elite if he can't steal bases?

What did the scouts get wrong? He has elite speed, plays a great CF, and has a cannon for an arm. Scouts always questioned the hit tool.

Except he can steal bases.... that's pretty ridiculous man.

He's struggling this year, so many people are hard on him. Hopefully he brings his head to the field next year

Yeah, hopefully he does bounce back. But there's no place for him on this team with Colby in CF.

Bourjos has elite speed and doesn't steal many bags. You can't use SB as a proxy for speed. Anyone who's seen Gose play can tell he's really f***ing fast.

Ok dude. He's fast, but I don't think he's as fast as people make him out to be. Some guys look a lot faster then they are and some look at a lot slower then they are (i.e. Alex Rios).

Why do you say that?

Watching him run up here. Even though he has a good SB%, I was surprised by how close every bag he stole was (that I saw) - I expected better based off the hype. And I never felt like he could make plays in CF that Rasmus couldn't get to. Also just the fact that he has multiple really bad SB% seasons in the minors.

"Kevin Pillar looks snazzy when I look at his stat lines on my computer screen. The BABIP is high, but it's high wherever he's gone. Would like to see a better walk rate.

He's pretty intriguing though, isn't he?

Another example, Charlie O. Finley hired that track star Herb Washington in the early 70's to be the designated pinch runner. His record of basestealing was abysmal.

Speed=/=good basestealer.

Gose is blazing fast

If I remember right, Devo wasn't a particularly good basestealer in his early years either, but he got there

And Gose is faster than Devo

Gose just needs to screw his head on straight

Or Carlos Beltran. He can't run but good bases stealer

Pillar goes 2 for 4 again today, 1B, 2B (no K's)... just sayin'...

I don't know this Pillar guy. I'd look at how David Cooper did who was promising at times ( minor league batting title, limited power, has some injury issues now ). Moises Sierra didn't look awful last year and started well early this season. Has he really fallen off the map or can this guy audition in September ?

I'm not a big fan of Gose or Cabrera so I'm interested in these other guys.

I'm pretty sure Sierra has been hurt for awhile.

About Pillar, I really like him but he's not gonna be a star. He could be a solid everyday guy that plays good D and hits at a decent rate with mediocre power.

Sierra should just jump on the plane with the Astro's.

I don't know how you don't know him considering he's the only MLB-ready position player we may have in our system in the next 1-2 years LOL.

He's nothing like Cooper. Cooper only had one tool. Pillar may not be a legit multi-tool player, but he's a well-rounded player with plus speed and the ability to hit for average. Here's a good write-up on him:

How about we dump Lind at the trade deadline, move melky to DH, and platoon Pillar and gose as an audition for next year.

Note: I'm guessing pillar bats right but in fact have no clue.

You don't really understand age relative to level do you? Pillar's been older than prospect consideration for every year of pro' ball he's played. So I expect a big regression there. I expect him to be more of a 4th OF type, so with a lack of playing time, more regression. And with him being older than the average decent prospect and averaging 11 HR's over the course of a full season, that with his steals and slash line.

I'd project something like a poor man's Gerardo Parra

Why do you want to degrade the only position player we have in our high minor league system that doesn't suck? Incase you haven't noticed, there's not much else going for the Blue Jays this season.

Right now: Gerardo Parra >>> Melky Cabrera

If reality is degrading then I'll f***ing do it.

I'm not here to pamper idiot Jays fans. If I'm sitting beside a Jays fan and a Yankee fan at a game and they're both idiots, then they're both equally idiots. I don't side with the Jays fan because I'm more of a Jays fan than a Yankee fan.

Like the huge regression that occurred when he was sent to AAA?.................... Oh wait.

The reality is you just don't know. You're basing talent level by an age-rating system that is usually right but not always. Hell, if it were up to you, Evan Gattis should just quit and go back to working at Pizza Hut. Do you think I actually believe Pillar with be some elite player? No, not even close. Though I would like to watch him play over the sloth that is currently roaming LF... particularly in a season that means s*** all.

I mentioned Cooper because he actually was a capable major league level hitter that got criticized for lack of power. I liked him. But last I heard he has very serious health issues. I don't follow minor leagues closely at all these days. I do know Sierra looked good at times on the big team. Kind of like Herchevierra, Gomes, Thames, they all showed glimmers of major league potential, but not enough to cement a regular job at the time.

Sierra showed potential but he lacked some serious base running knowledge.

I'm all for giving Pillar a chance, it's not like we can do any worse than we are now, if there is a small chance he can surprise people, ill take it.
