Another Jays prospect bites the dust.

Why is Gose so cocky? A career .719 OPS for a minor league OFer is god awful.

Bench him for a few days.

Gose (D tools and Speed) + Pillar (bat) = HOF centerfield

Marty Brown wasn’t pleased.

The Buffalo Bisons manager took his time before meeting with the media Thursday night after the team dropped a 4-2 decision to the Toledo Mud Hens at Coca-Cola Field.

He doesn’t take well to losing. But he wasn’t just steamed about the loss. He was steamed about the final play of the game.

With two outs, Anthony Gose and Eugenio Velez were on first and second base, respectively.

They went off on a double steal with Mike McCoy at bat. Only Brown didn’t call for a steal. And Gose was thrown out at second to end the inning and the Herd’s bid for a last-inning rally.

“There was no sign,” Brown said. “Did you see me give a sign? Guys are on their own. Certain players want to do things on their own, and that’s going to be taken away so there’s no more on your own. If you see a guy go, and you didn’t see me give a sign, then he won’t be playing the next day.

“It’s the time of the season where this stuff shouldn’t happen. It’s also the time of the season you see guys do this kind of thing … a lot of guys look at numbers. Take that for what it’s worth.”

Gose has just 11 steals and has been caught stealing 10 times. Brown doesn’t seem fond of Gose’s risk-taking.

“I’m not one to ever throw my players under the bus about anything. I’ll take the blame about anything, but that was stupid baseball. …

He's already been benched about a month ago. He misplayed a fly ball in the ninth inning then did not throw ball in. I think he was sat for three games. My memory is vague but that is what I remember. Anyone have specifics?

Should he be sent back a level?

Yep. Too bad we can't physically merge them though. Each on his own is a AAAA 4th OF/ bench player

Unbelievable

Both that he did it in this instance, and that he's only got a 50 ish % stealing success rate

Gose: Career MiLB SB% = 69.7%

Pillar: Career MiLB SB% = 75.0%

Gose Speed = Over-rated.

Well his "track speed" is best in the organization. But that doesn't guarantee that a guy is a good base stealer. Some fast runners get picked off too much or read pitchers poorly, get bad jumps and get thrown out more than they should. Gose may just lack the instincts.

Speed tool is not only SB.

I think people rate his speed high because he "looks" really fast (short legs or something?) and the way he slides head-first like superman "looks" cool. Gose SB numbers don't lie anymore, not a small sample size. Look at Bourn's MiLB SB% - Gose is not even in the same ball park.

For that matter, Rajai Davis has much better SB record. And he hits better. He's just not the quality defender that Gose is. Shame...

Yeah. Gose, 2 tool player - arm + fielding.

we giving up on Gose already? How old is he again

and where the f*** is Tim Raines in this? he should stand in at 1B coach for the Bisons for a bunch of games

So let me get this straight

Down by two runs in the 9th

And he gets caught STEALING a base to end the game with the tying run at the plate and two outs.

...

He'll fit in perfectly here!

Gose is lightning fast. It's incredibly to me that a player with his athletic ability/talent can't hit for a decent average in the minors. I understand trying to maximize his value by attempting to get some power out of that swing... but it's failed miserably and he needs to just try to make as much contact as possible.

People love to trash Juan Pierre. He was treated like a superstar in the early 2000s by the mainstream media when he didn't deserve to be, but he carved out a decent offensive career via putting the ball in play and beating out balls. Gose will never have the contact ability that Pierre had but his defense and arm makes up for the gap.

He already shown the ability to draw a walk. If he can just put the ball in play on a regular basis I don't think a consistent .350 OBP would be out of the question.

It was worse. There was another runner on base ahead of him. He was the tying run on first base.

Edit: With Jose F'n Valverde pitching for the Mud Hens, who had already allowed 2 baserunners in the inning

How can a pro player even make a mistake like that? That's Lawrie-esque idiocy and lack of awareness.

Complete lack of awareness and incredible selfishness.

The chirping-at-Lind incident on the sac fly was what convinced me that Lawrie probably doesn't have the ability to succeed at the highest level. Wouldn't surprise me to see him out of the league before 30.

Well our second best player (Bautista) steals third base with two outs with regualarity. The "leader" of your big club is completely clueless in these situations. This does not send a good signal to the young'ns.

Obviously the organization doesn't place an emphasis on basepath discipline. Don't expect a change anytime soon.

The last couple years really make you appreciate orgs like TB and STL.

I don't follow the minors close enough anymore but their lower-lower levels must have some fantastic coaches in them. These teams just keep churning them out.... and STL almost never picks super high anymore because of how good they are. It's not just scouting.... it's gotta be just a perfect organizational philosophy that starts with the kids.

Miller was picked 25th overall, Lynn was picked 39th overall, Jay was 74th Garcia was picked in the 22nd round Rosenthal was picked in the goddamn 21st round.

The Jays make the "we never drafted really high" excuse, but the Cardinals got impact players in lower rounds. They do that s*** right.

1999 draft

13th round - 401 overall - Alfredo Amezaga - Angels

13th round - 402 overall - Albert Pujols - Cardinals

13th round - 403 overall - Marc Bluma - Blue Jays

LOL

I hear he turned out to be pretty good relative to his draft position.

There is no way in hell that Gose doesn't have a speed tool. It's fine to say he has a lot to work on with decisions on the base paths, but he is undeniably fast.
