Basically the trade (should be) as so:

To the Dodgers:

RHP - Ricky Nolasco

Int'l slot $$$, $197K per Ken Rosenthal

To the Fish:

RHP - Steve Ames

RHP - Josh Wall

RHP - Angel Sanchez

Wow... The Marlins basically gave him away for nothing.

I wonder how much international money the Dodgers get. Maybe they'll take it and then trade it to Chicago for Garza too lol.

Not much! Deal done per Rosy:

Maybe if the Marlins actually ate some salary, they would've gotten better prospects--Loria screwed up here. Not mentioned was that the Dodgers are taking on the remainder of that contract--Miami deserves to get very little. Spend some money already!

This was a pure salary dump plain and simple.

I don't think MLB would approve our deal if we held on to some of the prospects we sent their way.

BTW, Miami dumping his salary is like us dumping 20 mil worth of salary.

Just like the salary dumped on the Blue Jays last November...except that AA was nice enough to give them actual prospects.

If the Marlins were falling over themselves to give up Hanley and Nolasco for nothing, then why over the winter did we have to give up assets and take on Buehrle's salary too?

Maybe because it would be rejected by the Commissioner's Office?

Without him for the season (total payroll - his 11.5M), Marlins payroll now about $39M for 2013, if you took his salary away completely.

In truth, they've paid him about 6M so they're paying in the range of 45M for the year all told

I'm pretty sure i've seen somewhere they had 36mil payroll minus his 5-6mil that should be 30mil.

BTW, can a qualified offer by 1 year thing? Or does it have to be longer than that? If we offer JJ 1 year at 13mil, he might not accept while if you give him 5 year at 13mil each he will probably accept.

Baseball prospectus/Cots not up to date I think

A qualifying offer *is* a 1 year deal

Has to be 1 year at value average of the top 125 paid players in baseball

JJ needs to walk. Guy has been terrible this year and injury problems are only going to get worse.

I'd be very happy if we could resign him for something like 5/60 or 5/70. I think we should let him walk if that doesn't do it though.

The Marlins are paying $8.5M of Buehrle/Reyes/JJ's salary and $4M of Heath Bell's. That's the difference in figures.

Ah, right. Thanks.

Damn. I think the Jays gave more away for f***ing Happ!

Yep. But he was under team control for longer.

And we still didn't give up anyone big.

Good point, but I still think the Jays gave up too many mid-prospects.

I still think a few of those players can bite us in the ass; and was too much for Happ,

even with three years of control.
