o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 If Gonzalez fail you lose money. If Dickey fail you lose money and prospects and more money. exactly!!! there is always more money, but prospects dont grow on trees. especially not on a Jays farm.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 A MLB ready 2B on the market and AA didn't bid? Not surprising but, definitely disappointing. AA absolutely needs to be in on Miguel Gonzalez. He isn't going to get that kind of talent without giving up prospects or a comp pick. The Jays need to make a few moves this season/off-season, AA needs to hang on to as many assets as possible if he expects to be able to put this team over the top.

According to many scouts Miguel Gonzalez is a reliever lol
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2013 Author Posted July 23, 2013 No deal between Dodgers and Guerrero yet The agent for Cuban infielder Alexander Guerrero told Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com that his client has not reached a deal with the Dodgers. Reports in the Dominican Republic indicate that Guerrero has reached a seven-year, $32 million agreement with the Dodgers, but his agent is calling it premature. While the 26-year-old is a free agent, he still needs to be unblocked by the United States government before he can sign with a team. Sanchez hears that Guerrero has a showcase scheduled for Wednesday while a total of three teams are believed to be in the mix to sign him. AA do it
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2013 Author Posted July 23, 2013 Seems like Gonzalez may not be the next Darvish or Chapman. but Livan Hernandez
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Seems like Gonzalez may not be the next Darvish or Chapman. 5yrs $10M would be paying him for ~1.5WAR per season. That's not paying him like a star on the open market.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 A smart GM in Alice's position right now would at least try to sign both. I'd call it a high risk/high reward move, but what's the risk, really, besides losing money? Not like the Jays haven't wasted a ton of money already on this s*** team.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 More on the Cuban shortstop Alex Guerrero Three Teams Vying For Cuban Shortstop Guerrero Despite reports out of the Dominican Republic earlier today that Cuban shortstop Alexander Guerrero had agreed to a seven-year deal with the Dodgers, Guerrero's agent tells MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez that no such thing is true. Three teams are still in the mix for Guerrero, who has yet to be unblocked by the United States Office of Foreign Assets Control, and no agreement is in place with any of the interested parties (Twitter links). Sanchez also tweets that the Dodgers are indeed one of the teams interested in Guerrero, adding that an additional National League team and one American League team are also suitors at this point. Guerrero will host a showcase for scouts on Wednesday in the Dominican Republic and play in a game Thursday. Guerrero reportedly defected from Cuba in January, as noted at the time by Matthew Pouliot of NBC Sports. The 26-year-old OPSed .997 or better each year in Cuba from 2009-11. It's unclear if there's any connection, but surprise reports earlier this morning said that the Dodgers were out of the running for prized Cuban right-hander Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez. This is just my speculation, but perhaps Dodgers GM Ned Colletti and his staff have shifted their focus to a position player due to their depth at starting pitcher.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 More on the Cuban shortstop Alex Guerrero I would have such a massive erection if AA managed both Guerrero and Gonzalez. Even if they didn't pan out, that's the kind of move I want my GM to make.

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 but he's 30 or 34 Maybe but 30 year old cubans are the new market inefficiency
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2013 Author Posted July 24, 2013 Orioles Sign Cuban Outfielder Dariel Alvarez The Orioles have agreed to terms on a deal with 24-year-old Cuban outfield prospect Dariel Alvarez for $800K, according to Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com. Because Alvarez is older than 23 and has more than three years of professional experience, he is not subject to the new international signing guidelines laid out in the most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement. Alvarez is in Miami and waiting on the results of his physical, which will make the deal official. Alvarez defected from th AA hate Cubans

I know he's not 26 but................AlexGue can be productive for 4 or 5 years for only 30 millions (according scouts) He can't be worst than Boni or Maicer

We wouldn't have to brutalize our poor farm system for a clear upgrade over Bonifacio at the very least.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2013 Author Posted July 25, 2013 I have to be sincere with all of you. I'm starting to love the Cubans. High risk but...............Upgrade without damaging minor league system; Might you win the lottery.
