BTS Community Moderator Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Cameron brought up the "problem" of white prevalence in the analytics community several times today in his chat. I don't really understand why it's considered a problem. I don't think there's a systematic bias forcing minorities out; for whatever reason, they just haven't been interested in participating in this particular niche. Does it really matter?
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I didnt get that from the article at all, I felt he was saying that plenty of black poeple are good at math, but very few care about analytics. I also didn't get anything about analytics being used to push blacks out of the coaching or executives role. I felt he was calling out black people who play the " not enough blacks in these positions" card and was stating that if blacks don't covet or care about the same things that you need to get hired in these positions, it's their own fault. ... really? It seemed pretty explicit to me.

Of course it does. We need to work towards a society with perfectly equal equality of outcome.

BTS Community Moderator Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Of course it does. We need to work towards a society with perfectly equal equality of outcome. There seems to be a lot of confusion about issues like this. Problem: minorities being held out of the analytics community Not a problem: minorities being less interested than white people in participating in the analytics community There's no evidence whatsoever to suggest that the latter isn't what's happening.

Next you'll be using this kind of argument to try to explain why there's a disproportionate amount of males to females in politics, instead of automatically coming to the conclusion of systemic bias against women. For shame. And of course there's the implied stance that if minorities are less interested in analytics, it's because they are less smart and/or less interested in using intelligence to gain an upper hand in sports than white people. For shame x2 BTS, for shame.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Still with his mouth firmly clasped around BTS' nutsack Boxy has gone full conservative
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Boxy has gone full conservative It's guys like you who make guys like tercet do the things they do to poor old BTS. I'm sure he would trade his online harem of teenage boys for one decent woman in a heartbeat given the chance.

She keeps him fully stocked with Mountain Dew and Doritos.
crazy47larry Verified Member Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 so my guess of $14m o/u looks conservative now. for the record JV just signed for $16m per year before the season. Bismack Biyombo could make up to $17 million per year as an unrestricted free agent this summer, according to an unnamed general manager. While Biyombo may not fetch a max contract, his play in the Eastern Conference Finals has him poised for a huge pay day as an unrestricted free agent this summer. "For someone like [biyombo], I think when you look at a guy like Tyson Chandler and what he got from Phoenix last summer [four years, $52 million], that’s where you start for a contract," one Eastern Conference GM told Sporting News. "But you factor in the cap spike and it’s probably going to be high, I’d say, $16-17 million. It’ll be a heck of a $17 million-per-year gamble." While Biyombo can be an inconsistent player, he is still just 23 years old and will be an interesting fantasy target if he lands in a starting role in 2016-17. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nba/1834/bismack-biyombo
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Noah's also a free agent and likely going to leave Chicago. He's a better pairing with JV if we can somehow get him
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I don't think he gets that much but if he does then lol
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Lol ESPN: Do they mean less easily offended and pathetically insecure? Because if they do, I agree. Raptor fans make me f***ing cringe so hard.

jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Every fanbase has cringy aspects to them. But Toronto has a huge online fan base which exposes more of the dumbasses.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 I will put Raptors fans and Jays fans in the same boat. I think it may have something to do with only Canadian team in the league type deal.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 If the raps manage to make it I am sure we will see some make NBA great again beat raptors tweets from Trump
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 I do think it is incredibly obnoxious to go and bring Canadian flags on the road. By all means, wear your colors and chear the Raptors, but having all this Canadian-centric crap is overdoing it. Imagine Yankee fans bringing USA flags and chanting USA at Rogers Centre? Don't tell me you wouldn't question that.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Well they chant USA!! all the time whenever a fight or quarrel breaks out anyway.
