GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Great article on Sam Hinkie http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/16597961/sam-hinkie-just-win-tale-process-ultimate-fall
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Did we even try to get a meeting with him? Darkhorse is Clippers. I think if they traded Blake for another useful player and some depth before his contract runs out and they add KD, CP3+KD+DeAndre+return on Blake is more than enough to compete with GSW/SA. Dunno if it's enough to win but it gets them in the conversation. I read somewhere that KD told the Raptors a year or 2 ago that he wasn't coming to Toronto so he said don't bother it. My guess is Masai would try to set up a secret meeting with him because if KD ever did choose the Raps obviously they would then let Derozan walk so if it ever got out Derozan might get upset. Clippers would be unreal with KD but I don't think they would be any better then if he went to GS, OKC or maybe even Utah.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Sorry for the link spam but here's a nylon calculus article with a model predicting NBA contracts. http://nyloncalculus.com/2016/06/29/a-model-for-nba-free-agent-earnings/ Marvin Williams' surprised me. And Whiteside's in that it agrees with what i'm thinking. Still don't think he'll get paid a ton.

I really doubt the Raptor's were talking to Kevin Durant two year's ago while he was under contract with another team.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I really doubt the Raptor's were talking to Kevin Durant two year's ago while he was under contract with another team. And beyond that, he has to try to steal a star, and it may not be possible. Kevin Durant told this team’s intermediaries two years ago he wasn’t coming, but Tim Leiweke kept the PR campaign going as long as he could. The true superstars aren’t available. So Masai will hunt for an all-star, for better, for best. If it’s not a pure superstar, a secondary one might do. He called on Blake Griffin earlier this season. He called on others. He will hunt for something better. https://www.thestar.com/sports/raptors/2016/05/30/can-raptors-land-big-star-in-quest-to-be-championship-team-arthur.html
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 [h=1]Report: Raptors contacted Sixers about Nerlens Noel deal[/h]
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 so we don't even get a meeting with durant? damn what is drake for again?
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Noah and the Knicks 4/72? Mozgov and the Lakers 4/64?
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Demar is back at a reported 5/139....excuse me while i cry
43211234 Verified Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Not unexpected. Not quite the max though.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Demar is back at a reported 5/139....excuse me while i cry Just heard the same. 27,800,000 a year! Yikes.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 we can forget about a Raptors NBA championship anytime soon
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Demar's deal is equivalent to 16-17 per year under the old cap. He didn't even take the max.. Continuity Is a good thing. We have a winning program and now we finally have some high upside young talent to supplement Kyle and Demar. Keep building this thing. I'm fine with this.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 we can forget about a Raptors NBA championship anytime soon Three years ago if I had told you we'd be an ever-improving 56 win ECF team you wouldn't have been satisfied? This team is basically a shoe in to make it back next year. With a little luck were a finals team.

They were one game from being knocked out of the 1st round by the Pacers but they're a shoe-in for the ECF next year ok...
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 They were one game from being knocked out of the 1st round by the Pacers but they're a shoe-in for the ECF next year ok... 2 wins away from the Finals... See what I did there...
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 2 wins away from the Finals... See what I did there... And they got blown out every other game int he ECF lol. They weren't as close to reaching the finals as everyone is stil trying to to preach it.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 So we can agree that Masai isn't smart at this point, right? Time to do the thing I did with Leafs/Nonis. I love this team but this is going to be too painful to watch. Maybe I'll tune into some Magic games.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 He's no RC Buford but we could do a lot worse( see Philies new GM). He's still had a lot good moves here. Powell Delon looks like a good player Cojo looking like a good deal Bargs to Knicks Bismack on a near min deal who carried us to the ECF

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 I didn't like the Ross contract but now it's moveable. Maybe that will happen with DD in a couple of years... please.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 He's no RC Buford but we could do a lot worse( see Philies new GM). He's still had a lot good moves here. You forgot the Val extension which looks great. Counter: Ross way overpaid on an extension Weirdly long leash on Casey Cojo also has an opt out next year doesn't he? Demar max (completely egregious) Drafting hasn't been great (Poeltl looks fine at least) None of those things are moves that point to a smart, extremely high-level GM. He seems like maybe a slightly above average GM with some good ideas that are dragged down by some very bad ones. This is so painful for me. I really really want to see this team go far, but they need to get better to go further, and they're going to have a lot of trouble doing that. They're going to have to max Kyle too, and that's going to be about half our cap tied up in two players, one of which shouldn't be getting anywhere near that. I really want to see this team succeed but this isn't the way to do it.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 I didn't like the Ross contract but now it's moveable. Maybe that will happen with DD in a couple of years... please. I don't wanna give a guy too much credit for making an extension who's only good feature is that it's movable. And there's no way he's moving Demar ever which you know.

I really want to see this team succeed but this isn't the way to do it. Ross isn't overpaid anymore in a league where Mozgov is making 64 million lol. His drafting has been fine considering the picks they've been getting. Normal Powell looks to be one of the better players in the draft last year. Also considering all he has done for the brand, I think he's been a great GM. The Raptors franchise was never going to attract the star FA and now around the league the perception has changed. If you get rid of Masai a worse GM would be replacing him anyway.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 I'd like to make it clear that I'm not saying Masai is dumb or a net-negative. He's just not a GM that will win us a championship, I don't think. Also, Al Jefferson just got what Ross got.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 And they got blown out every other game int he ECF lol. They weren't as close to reaching the finals as everyone is stil trying to to preach it. Silver linings, brih...
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 We're going to be living in a world where Demar Derozan is considered the GOAT raptor aren't we?
