The fact that he's dumb is stopping him from reaching his potential, basically. You seem to admit that he has a lot of unrealized upside.

Being able to shoot the ball doesnt give you great upside when you fail at everything else.

He can do a bit more than shoot though, physically. He can jump real high and stuff amirite

You can't teach a player to play like Wade.

He simply doesn't have the desire to attack the rim consistently. Maybe it'll come but I doubt it.

That's an overly pessimistic viewpoint.

Didn't people say similar, hand-wavy, dismissive things about Lowry before he came to Toronto?

You could just as easily say that he simply hasn't learned how to play properly yet in his ~120 or so professional games.

Lowry always had fantastic defensive intensity. He was just out of shape and never really had a true shot to run his own team.

They're not really comparable.

What's funny is that after he won those dunk contests. his defence went straight downhill.

Pretty sure people just said Lowry was fat and unmotivated to improve. He always drove to the rim though. Wasn't a repertoire question, more of an off the court thing. This is about Ross' on-court repertoire.

Lowry flops pretty hard as soon as he feels contact.

Because he doesn't get calls when he tries to tough it out. The Portland game comes to mind.
