burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Yeah, it's pretty much over. They battled back, but that 3rd quarter beat down was too much to overcome. Yup. Hopefully the team can grow from this. Not like this team is going to win every game, anyways.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 They pretty much shoot the same percentage from 3 lol. Not to compare the two, but Wade is also not very good from three and I don't think anyone would object to him pulling up for a shot in that situation.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 They pretty much shoot the same percentage from 3 lol. JJ gets backed off by like 5 feet when he is outside the 3 point line..Demar not so much.

Sure? What does that have to do with Demar though? Wade has full length youtube videos of clutch shots... DD not so much. Anyways doesn't matter, even if they made a 3 it would have still been a 2 possession game I think.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Derozan should be ashamed of himself after last night. You already got your money... score at an efficient rate and distribute the ball. That was easily one of his worst career performances.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Also, less minutes for Vasquez until he wakes up and realizes that the season has begun. 5 turnovers and only 1 assist in 14 minutes. Horrible.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Also, for the love of god, allow Nogeuira to play C on the second unit. Hansborough and Patterson cannot be on the court at the same time as neither have any rebounding/defensive skill whatsoever.

Although he's never really been able to shoot an efficient percentage his whole career but his volume shooting is eerily similar to a guy we just traded out of town for doing the exact same thing.
JaysRap Verified Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 ...And similar to the Jays (and Leafs I guess) these Toronto towns s*** the bed when put into a spotlight. They can't handle the big lights and crumble like a warm Pillsbury cookie.

They're a young team and they'll use this as a learning experience. Derozan still has to answer for that showing though.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Derozan got abused by Jimmy Butler. It's bad enough that he loves to chuck shots, but when they're not falling, he doesn't play a lick of defense either. I honestly don't think they can get very far in the playoffs with him being the first/second option and taking the most shots. We need another star to push him down to number three on the pecking order.

I haven't had a chance to read through the thread yet, however, this game imo was largely blown by Casey and Demar. How did casey keep JJ on the bench the whole god damn 3rd quarter and not take demar out sooner, who was getting eaten on defense and throwing up consistent bricks. YET he takes out JV who had 8/8 in 23 minutes on 50% shooting!?!? f*** his rotations have pissed me off lately

SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Patterson isn't even the issue for me, he had HAnsbro out there too, who is much worse. At least Patrick has started hitting 3s lately. When we were getting destroyed on the boards, Jonas had 8 in 23 minutes...just think Casey.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 For the people sucking Jonas's dick. He couldn't contain anyone he was guarding. Pau abused him more than Butler abused Derozan. JV gave up 7 FG on only 9 attempts and the team's defence was worse with him on the floor than anyone else last night. Also lets hold up on the Derozan hate..He had a terrible game no doubt but lets stop with the "we should trade him" after 9 f***in regular season games. As soon as the Raptors get good and have some hype everyone turns into armchair coach and GM. Maybe Bebe isn't playing because he isn't ready to play in the NBA? His scouting report said he constantly gets lost on the defensive end. I don't know about you guys but I don't want a guy playing min in a big game who doesn't understand defensive rotations. Masai has said it best. Its been 9 games. This team is a young team and is going to make mistakes and go through growing pains, just the nature of the business.

The whole point about Jonas not being out there is the fact we got molested on the glass and they created many 2nd chances due to their vast size advantage. Like jays fever said, Patterson has been awful and he played 24 minutes and did dick all. The problem with demar is he continued to force terrible shot attempts all game rather than trying to get to the rim and create for others. When his shot isn't falling, he doesn't change his style up and continues to put up contested mid range shots. You cannot do this against elite defenders and it's been proven time and time again. Great thing about this game despite everything that happened, we were really 2 mistakes away from being right there at the end. If Ross doesn't commit that bonehead foul on Dunleavy when he was trapped with 3 seconds left and one of those wide open threes was hit by Ross or Lowry/Amir doesn't throw the ball away.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Yea at least JV can rebound the ball and score efficiently, Patterson never guards anyone and has rebounds the ball like a point guard at this point. Chicago is a good team but that was a winnable game at home. Having Lou Williams on the floor the same time as Vasquez is proving to be a problem since Vasquez refuses to pass the ball

Im just saying the facts which with Jonas on the floor the team gave up the more points than any single player on the team. I think the reason they had Patterson on the floor was because they wanted to space the floor on offence so Noah couldn't just clog the lane. I'm not saying it was the right move but you can't blame a coach for every single thing that doesn't go right in the game. Personally, I would like to see JV on the floor a bit more because I think his development is very important and if this team is going to get to the next level JV is going to have to take a big step forward so you might have to play through some of his growing pains. Demar didn't really shoot too many long 2s. A lot of the shots he missed were open 15 footers or layups around the rim and I think he could of gotten a couple more calls which would of made his line look better. He had a bad game but Butler is a great defender so it was a tough matchup to begin with. If you look at Rose's stats he had a pretty bad game as well but no was is screaming about his performance on the floor. I think with every game you could say if "x" and "x" happened we would of been right there. Give Toronto a ton of credit for battling back but Chicago should of won this game and won it by more than 7 points. Best thing is that this one game and there will be a lot more "statement" games that mean just as much as this one.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 NBATV is re-airing the game with the TNT feed right now.

His offense will improve but he thinks way too highly of himself. He's most effective when he's on the floor with Lowry and the first unit because those guys won't let him just dribble around. He has the 4th most FG attempts on the team so far while playing < 20 MPG. Your job is to create opportunities buddy... Lou bothers me less because he can actually score the ball but I'd like to see a more team oriented approach from him as well.

His usage rate is up this year, 25% which is a career high, while his assist % is a career low. Turnovers are also somehow down despite him handing the ball a lot more and not sharing the ball. These numbers pretty much confirm what you said, he's just dribbling the ball around in circles, not moving it and being a plague on the offensive end. This while still being a black hole on defense.

While I agree Vasquez has been terrible lets at leasst give it 25 games to see how it is working with him and Lou on the floor together.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Not Raptors related, but who the heck is running the D for the Cavs? 101 points after 3 quarters given up. It's like watching Bonifacio fail at 2B last year the way the Cavs are defending. And Cleveland still has no bench..

Casey just needs to tighten the rotations against better teams. Thibs did this last night and the Bulls kicked the s*** out of us in the 3rd. JJ should've been out there to start the 3rd and should've played most of the 2nd half. A real coach stands up to his players and makes necessary adjustments. Casey seems to be a bit scared of his vets.

JV will be an all star and the go to guy for this team by the end of next year, even with Casey's brutal utilization him. He is that good.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Jv isn't that good. Pretty medoirce defender, efficient offensive player, good rebounder. Hes no where on the level as Noah, hortford, etc. He really hasn't improved during the three years hrs been here. People should stop expecting him to suddenly become an all star.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Anyone going to the game tonight?
immature Verified Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 There is no use debating it now. But i think his innate skill is just too much for him not to be an all-star next year. All the things he lacks are coachable.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Utah has their 4th game in 5 nights and the Raps should come out and lay a beating on them after a home loss last game. Vegas has them as 10.5 point favourites. Utah is pretty bad defensively so I expect the Raptors to put up a lot of points. Can't believe how many people get so negative about one loss. I think everyone will be back drinking the Kool-Aid after this game.

But i think his innate skill is just too much for him not to be an all-star next year. All the things he lacks are coachable. The thing that worries me with him is that he seems to have a really poor basketball IQ. Its like the opposite of Lowry. The jumping out on pumpfakes 15 feet outside the basket is an example of this. I think he can become an above average player because his tools are so good but I am not so sure he gets to All Star level because of his basketball IQ. I think he could drop 10 pounds and be more effective as well. I have this feeling he is still an alcoholic and thats put some bad weight on him.
