Just put Lind in the 2 hole with EE 4th.

I'm not sure if people are realizing this but Lind has 1 walk in the last 18 games - he's on a decline. Not sure that's what you want at the top.

I think it could be optimized

Putting a much worse hitter in the #2 spot (Izturis) doesn't optimize anything. Maybe you could flip EE and Lind but with the way Lind's hit this year that's probably just splitting hairs. Now that JPA's been bumped down closer to the bottom, I really have nothing to complain about regarding Gibby's lineup construction.

The only guy I would even think about breaking up the top 4 for right now would be Davis. He has been hitting well and until that changes could be an interesting option in the 2 hole. That being said I would still stick with the same top 4 as It gives our 4 best guys with the best OBP's the most opportunities.

This lineup has so much power that we can afford to put a big HR hitter like Bautista second and still have enough power further in the order to drive him in.

Unless they plan on giving Roberto Alomar a pill to make him 20 years younger and put him in the two-spot, the line-up is fine as it is. They don't have a true "Number 2" hitter unless Cabrera comes back healthy. Having Davis at 9 essentially gives you the lineup configuration as Gsnarls described above for most of the game. Don't people remember previous times Davis has been put at top? It's been a disaster. The man's mind is fragile. When you put him in the bottom of the order in a platoon situation and give him PH/PR opportunities late in games when he is on the bench, he produces like an all-star. If you treat him like he's Kenny Lofton, he turns into a turd. If there was an all-star slot for "bench player", he would be it.

Fantastic points. He's only batting "second" once per game. Hopefully he gets that.

Thanks...I think it's just Bautista being typical Bautista..."I'm not officially complaining, but I'm just simply mentioning it in the media, so you know, everybody knows my potential concern that I'm potentially not being the best potential baseball player I could be under this current situation". Same crap he pulls whenever the topic of him playing 3b comes up. If he is really insistent that he has a different mindset or approach to the game that doesn't maximize his skill set because he's hitting #2 versus #3, then all the Jays need to do is book a couple of electro-shock therapy sessions for him and that'll fix him right up :)

Why not just flip JB and EE? JB's happy and they both still hit in the first inning.

Dunno. I suspect JB likes the "protection" of Edwin hitting behind him. Lind has been just as good but...

He probably doesn't care what Keith Law or any other sabermetric hound thinks

He wants to hit 3rd again.

The real question is whether Bautista will come out wearing R.A Dickeys slump busting pants. I would actually prefer the whole team wear them TBH, really gives some contrast to the monotone grey jerseys.
