jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I like Murphs bat, though defensively he's not the ideal player I'd want at second base.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I doubt they were looking at Volquez. He would be an awful fit in the AL East. Maybe Chase Headley or Forsythe. Andrew Cashner would be a nice target, though doubt the Padres move him with the way he has been pitching this season.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Headley would be an excellent target, already at 2 WAR and has a .332 OBP, but only if we could sign him to an extension. An IF of Headley/Reyes/Lawrie/EE/Lind is downright motherf***ing sexy. I'm weary of the cost, though. But seriously, we're not actually going after Edinson Volquez, are we? Oh geez.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Andrew Cashner = Rizzo = Lawrie lol Yeah, the price tag for Cashner would be quite high especially since he's been great this year out of the rotation. I doubt the Jays are interested in Volquez, unless they plan on flipping him in a three way deal haha. The only guys that make sense are Headley or Forsythe. Grandal would be nice as well, though not sure the Padres would move him (though they do have Hedges). Give them JPA (a big power bat) in a deal for Grandal lol. It's a dream.

I think Headley would be expensive in a trade however, based on what he did last year offensively especially. Likely looking at something around Sanchez or Gose + I would have to think.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 If AA does indeed try to address 2B, D needs to be the primary focus and then go from there. No point in adding another bat that can't field. This lineup is strong enough, we need a better defender.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 If you can get Chase Headley at a good price, you can definitely move Lawrie to second. Headley is a player the Padres would like to keep. He's looking at about 6-years/$100mm. San Diego have also indicated that if he were to be traded they'd expect more than what they got for Mat Latos.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 What makes any of you think San Diego will be sellers? All of you are dumn. Right now, I doubt they are sellers since things in the NL West are close. Though if they fall out of it near the end of July, they likely will. I doubt they move Headley unless they are blown away by an offer. Perhaps they move some outfield pieces/utility players or BP arms or a vet starter like Marquis.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 At least. Try Lawrie + Gose + Stroman. If the asking price for Headley is crazy, Lawrie + is likely a guy they'd want back since they would need a 3B back (though they do have Gyroko). Likely not worth it from the Jays perspective and I don't think they would do it.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I haven't watched much of Forsythe. How is his defence? Not really sure, haven't seen enough of him to have a valid opinion. Unless his D is +, he probably isn't worth trading for with a non-relevant bat.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Moving Lawrie would be pointless. He is still cheap and plays plus D. His bat has been a disappointment, but he still has a lot of value for this team. I wouldn't even entertain moving him right now. Maybe in a couple years when he starts to get expensive.

Them wanting more than what they got for Latos for a player who will be wearing pinstripes in 2015 makes it not worth it.

Izturis has looked better and better as the year goes on. With everyday playing and moving back to 2B when Lawrie is back he could actually be OK.

Maybe option him to the minors and have him play 10 games or so at 2B to see what he can do? If Kawasaki can play 2B at an MLB average level defensively, and keep providing a solid OBP and working the s*** out of pitch counts, that is pretty good.

(Used to think would be well above average but no longer see that as likely) Elite defender Average hitter Above average speed That's a good player for 500k But he needs to mature and stop getting hurt so much as well.
IronLadle Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Lawrie + for Headley no way, I wouldn't trade Lawrie straight up for Headley at this point. We love undervaluing our own players and overvaluing everybody else on here.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 -Nate Schierholtz and Matt Garza from the Cubs -Michael Young from the Phillies Nolin, Rogers, Sierra and someone with upside who hasn't done much like Thon to the Cubs would work. Rogers has more value next year when he'll be ready to go more than 100-120 innings. Bonifacio is liked in Philly. The can have him, along with Delabar and done.

(face palm)
