G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I've been thinking about this a bit and I can't decide - is more attention from the US Media good or bad for this team? Most of the season so far you barely saw the team mentioned outside of Sportnet, TSN and the Canadian papers. ESPN, CNNSI, Fox Sports and such would show highlights and scores and it seemed most broadcasts I saw almost totally ignored the Jays. (Maybe my perception but it seemed glaring) A run like this could put us in the spotlight. I think it has already started to happen, in fact. What do you think? Good or bad?
flafson Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 It's bad when it's off season and half the team is new and didn't get a chance to gel yet. Right now i don't think it matters.
Metallijay Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 They are pros. If they can't handle media attention how can they expect to handle a pennant race or playoffs?
JugglingPitches Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 More media attention = more interested fans. More interested fans = more butts in seats. More butts in seats = higher payroll. Higher payroll = better players. Better players = better chance of winning. So, good thing.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I like it, gives me more stuff to read when I'm slacking off!
flafson Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Looks like we are MLB's free game of the day today, i guess that goes under the category of media attention.
flafson Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Pretty sure we're not. Also, Bisons put up their starting lineup, Reyes is leading off with Pillar hitting 2nd.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 Answer without looking up: how many games did Jose Reyes play for the Jays this year before getting hurt? (It's less than you probably think)

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I'm also pretty sure it's 10. 3 against Cleveland, 3 against Detroit and he got hurt on the 1st game against the Royals.

Good or bad? it was bad in the off season. probably part of the reason they started so bad. I think a number of the jays bought the hype and thought they just had to show up to win. at this point most have gotten past that and it should not matter.

flafson Verified Member Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Talk about media attention, did you guys watch Gibby post game interview? Half of it was the guys from Taiwan asking about Wang, they want to make sure that he will be pitching his next start because Gibby pulled him out after less than 90 pitches, pretty funny to watch. http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=28258777
backontop Verified Member Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Its great as long as Rogers isn't the one giving them all of the attention. IMO Rogers is the reason the Jays stank in April, with their excessive ads it spoiled the players much like a mother spoiling one of her kids. Thank God they play 162 games in baseball. Now we are only 6 back instead of being 6 games on top like we would have been if it weren't for Rogers overdoing it in March and April, but they learned their lesson. I think better of AA and Beeston now that we have won 10 in a row.
itsawrap Verified Member Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I live in California, and trust me, the media attention in the US surrounding baseball in general is pretty feeble, let alone the Jays. Still, now that the NBA finals is over we might see the attention shifted back to baseball. Today's sportscenter did have the Jays the top story behind the Aaron Hernandez fiasco, but it was nothing more than highlights and a quick mention of how we've extended the streak to 10 and are no longer horseshit in the cellar of the AL East. I think it's gonna take a victory or two against some of the bigger names (ie Yanks/Red Sox) to really get it going.

For the simple minded people Rogers screwed up, for the shareholders, there laughing at the simple f***s.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 lol yeah I listened to it at the time. Gibby clearly thinks it's hilarious that all these people are following Wang around. That's funny as hell. They're so insecure.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 That's funny as hell. They're so insecure. Or, they've noticed the DFA carousel that the Jays have used since the beginning of the year. Boy, am I ever glad that's stabilized.
flafson Verified Member Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 That's funny as hell. They're so insecure. I can understand them, he is a baseball hero in Taiwan and i think the only one. Kinda like Suzuki and Darvish.
