G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Yes the offense has been good, and the defense has improved, but the main reason behind the Blue Jays' recent surge is obviously the pitching. Chew on this. Over the last 2 weeks, the team pitching has posted: .219 Opponent BA 1.14 WHIP 9-2 Win-Loss record 2.08 ERA (in the last week the team ERA is *1.0*) 3.67 FIP The starters and bullpen have posted too many scoreless innings to count. The Rangers in particular were almost completely shut down for 4 games. Special props to: Brett Cecil - He's an absolute WEAPON. No one can hit him. Opponent BA for the season .134. ONE HUNDRED THIRTY FOUR. Seriously. In the last incredible two weeks??? OBA .000 with a WHIP of 0.15. K/BB ratio of 6.0. That's unsustainable obviously but just wow. Esmil Rogers - Wow. Thank you. We needed that. Mark Buerle - Best starter overall for the season. And he's so damn durable. Yes he had a bad April. It is now forgiven.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Buherle has stunk for the first 5 weeks in each season since his 31st birthday. I'm not sure why people were surprised by his early failures or by his turnaround. He does this every year.

I didn't know this I just always remembered him being kind of tough on us in his White Sox days
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 From the USA Today article... "1.99 ERA over the last 15 games. Their bullpen has a 24-inning scoreless streak, yielding a 0.67 ERA since May 31."
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 And that 1.99 ERA includes that damp and windy game in Chicago that had the fog delay. The weather had Dickey all messed up.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 Pretty astonishing, let's hope they can keep it up for the most part! I'll settle for 4/5 of the rotation being good during any given stretch, and a shut-down pen.
