DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 (edited) Howie Kendrick for Lawrie and Sanchez is what they'd ask I can see them asking for Sanchez. Moving Lawrie for Kendrick would be opening one hole to fill another. No chance that happens. Edited June 24, 2013 by DuckDuckGose fixed typo
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 lol what You think they'll ask for Izturis and Nolin? No. Its gonna cost. But not that much. And as an above poster put it perfectly, it would be creating a hole to fill another one.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Me too, especially on a soft tossing 34yo With elite breaking stuff and pinpoint control... I'm all for Cliff Lee even with the huge contract but I admit, my love of him might cloud my judgement a little.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 It would be very hard to pass on Kendrick, he's 3-4 WAR 2B IMO. Anyone think Stroman + Nolin gets it done? Id really prefer to hold onto Stroman I think they would absolutley bite on something centered around Osuna + Nolin + Stilson + Jenkins
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Hey quick question ... If we let JJ walk in free agency, how many comp picks do we get and where would they be?

I'm all for Cliff Lee even with the huge contract but I admit, my love of him might cloud my judgement a little. Don't get me wrong, I love Cliff Lee. That's just a scary contract for any pitcher. When you factor in age, declining velocity and the inherent injury risks of any pitcher there are enough red flags to make me wary. I'd trade for him if the cost was a few B level guys. I'm thinking the Phillies would be looking for a bigger package than what the Mets got for Dickey, d'Arnaud + Syndergaard + C level guy in Becerra and moving Sanchez/Gose for him would be a non-starter IMO.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Id really prefer to hold onto Stroman I think they would absolutley bite on something centered around Osuna + Nolin + Stilson + Jenkins I value Stroman about the same as Osuna. I feel the Angels would prefer Stroman because he is closer to MLB ready which is why I picked him. However, I do like your package. You'd have to think a package of Osuna/Stroman + Nolin + MLB BP piece w/ control (Carreno/Stilson/Jenkins) + org guy would have to be enough to at least get their attention.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 howie kendrick and trout for entire bullpen, lawrie, sanchez, northof49, fatcow and me is what they'd ask iftfy
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I like Kendrick, but I wouldn't give up Nolin + Stroman for him so there's probably no match.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I like Kendrick, but I wouldn't give up Nolin + Stroman for him so there's probably no match. I would do Nolin + Stroman for Kendrick in a heartbeat but LA probably says no to that.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I would do Nolin + Stroman for Kendrick in a heartbeat but LA probably says no to that. My thinking is that I don't want the team to give up the 2 pitching prospects that are in the upper minors this year with JJ being a FA at the end of the year, Morrow sucking and injured, RR's implosion, Dickey's suckiness and Buehrle's age. I believe the franchise is better off with these 2 guys starting next season at AAA and providing starting pitching depth.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 I like Kendrick, but I wouldn't give up Nolin + Stroman for him so there's probably no match. You prob wouldn't have moved Deck early on either... and Nolin isn't anything better than Nester Molina. HK been a legit 3 WAR guy now for the last 4 seasons or so.. think he makes $8m without looking. Moving over to the RC should really help him as well. I would be down with that deal

Have to offer him a qualifying offer. If he rejects it and signs with another team the Jays would get a pick at the end of the first round in the 2014 Rule 4 draft.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I like Kendrick, but I wouldn't give up Nolin + Stroman for him so there's probably no match. Starting to go back and forth a bit on the value here. So we may be in the ballpark.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 Deck never pitched as well as Nolin has. I was thinking of Molina for Nolin.. Was comparing Stroman to more of a Deck.. not meaning same type of pitcher but both were fast track "very safe" selections
RIPEXPOS Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 What do you guys think of targeting 2B prospect Kolten Wong from the Cardinals for something like Izturis and a BP arm like Oliver or Loup? They are desperate for even replacement level play from SS, and Izturis has been looking really good lately. Wong to me could be the top 2B prospect in the game when considering his proximity to the majors and the fact he's a good bet to be a solid all around starter.

I like the pitching depth these 2 guys will represent next year along with Hutchison. If they think Nolin will be another Molina, then I guess it could make more sense to me. I just think the team will get a boost with Reyes and Lawrie coming back that having Izturis/Kawasaki/DeRosa/Bonifacio at 2B isn't as bad with Reyes and Lawrie back. No doubt I like Kendrick though, it's more about the starting pitching with the Blue Jays going into next year and beyond.

And if you're the Cardinals, why would you do that? LaRussa isn't around anymore and as far as I know, Wong hasn't pissed off any of their coaches in the minors.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Much like I want the Jays to make a run at HK ....... I think the Cards may take a run at Erick Aybar

I wouldn't be looking to move SP depth for a rental. But Kendrick would be core piece until after 2015 season. We know what he is. We really don't know what Lawrie is yet. We still have a handful of guys that can compete for that #4 and #5 spot next year.. not to mention if the Jays win this year, it may be more likely they look to add a solid backend SP in FA.

Let Kawa split time with Boni or DeRosa.

I wouldn't rip AA for the deal that's for sure. I think it would make it easier if Rogers continues to pitch well, not dominating, but pitching well enough to say "hey, we have a #4-5 guy here". I don't know how much Kendrick is making for the next 2-3 seasons, but we also have to remember the salary situation. Maybe you trade Rasmus in the offseason to save some $ and go with a Gose/Pillar platoon in CF? Might be a possibility depending on what sort of payroll is approved for next year. If they continue to climb up the standings, ratings, attendance and interest will grow which will make it easier to increase payroll for next season.
RIPEXPOS Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 To gear up for a WS run? Believe it or not some teams might value 2 major league players over a B+ prospect.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I'm really liking the idea of adding Kendrick, he's a perfect fit and possibly available. I was looking at the Angels payroll and can't help but, wonder what they would pay to get out from Well's salary. I'm not not sure if it is even possible to trade salary obligation (w/o moving a player) given the current CBA. However if the Jays were to take on Kendrick + some of Wells salary you would have to think the price would come down a bit. Perhaps this is another chance for Rogers to flex it's financial might.

How about sending them the 8M the Marlins sent to the Blue Jays in the Bonifacio trade?
