Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Wedge… intimated that Ackley might have been too concerned with pitch selectivity and high on-base percentage, leading to a one-liner that hit on one of baseball’s most intriguing ongoing philosophical battles. “It’s the new generation. It’s all this sabermetrics stuff, for lack of a better term, you know what I mean?” Wedge said. “People who haven’t played since they were 9 years old think they have it figured out. It gets in these kids’ heads.” http://mlb.si.com/2013/05/28/dustin-ackley-eric-wedge-sabermetrics-mariners/ lol
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 That was HILARIOUS. "you people pointing out what makes a baseball player good makes players want to be good and then they are bad!"

Sweet! AA, if you want to redeem yourself, send Izzy and Rogers and see if they bite
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Soooooooooooo he's worth about half as much as we think he's worth to the Mariners? Ackley makes for quite the interesting buy-low.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Ackley makes for quite the interesting buy-low. We need to take a chance on him. We have to
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 So, in other words, Eric Wedge is a moron. lo Gibbons thinks the same, sure.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 Maybe he's a good with the players and with the bullpen? At least the M's have a stats-friendly front office. Wedge will be fired coming soon.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 Would they be interested in Romero? Romero is the man. Wedge don't know nothing about xFIP
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Would they be interested in Romero? Romero for Ackley + Harang/Saunders?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 More like Romero + Rasmus + $20M for Ackley + Saunders. Joe Saunders right? lol
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 People need to really forget about Romero as anything but a huge negative-value asset. Guy has 20 walks and 3 strikeouts in 13 AAA innings, and is owed over $15 million. Reported So cruel and sincere
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Romero is the man. Wedge don't know nothing about xFIP But he does know about walks and Romero's 20 walks in 13 AAA innings is bad lol Romero for Ackley + Harang/Saunders? Romero's worth that much? I thought you'd have to throw Izturis and maybe a fringe reliever to get it done for Ackley alone Romero's too lost and has a big contract. Hopefully Brett Lawrie never ends up a candidate Well they think Ackley's lost too, and I'm sure Wedge has memories of Romero's sub 3-ERA season 2 years ago, just throw in money in the deal Romero + $15 million + something else of value could do the trick. That's a steal
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 More like Romero + Rasmus + $20M for Ackley + Saunders. Oh, throwing Saunders into this too? I'd do that. Romero's worth that much? I thought you'd have to throw Izturis and maybe a fringe reliever to get it done for Ackley alone Izturis has been kinda terrible.
Dr Negative Verified Member Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 There are a lot of reclamation projects on the Mariners. I wouldn't mind trying to fix Smoak as well.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I don't know how you f*** up three consecutive can't-miss big bat prospects (Smoak, Ackley, Montero). Hitting in Safeco must really mess with these kids' approaches.

Guys like Giambi were confused by it when they first came up. They replaced TLR with Art Howe and even said you are here to follow an org wide initiative and if you don't follow it you will be fired. Managers have to learn to let players be who they are, especially when it was successful in the minors. I have no idea how many pitches Ackley took in the minors but if he was selective then, he should be now.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2013 Author Posted May 29, 2013 Wedge is a 2 years old child compared to Zaun.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Did Eric Wedge say this before or after his team lost 8 in a row?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 "Aunque el mono se vista de seda, mono se queda" or "Although the monkey dressed in silk, mono stays" Lind will remain Lind until the end of time. 2013 Lind doesn't look much like 2011 Lind...

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Yep. He's only having success BECAUSE he's not facing any lefties. Well, the past few years he wasn't exactly tearing it up against righties either...
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2013 Author Posted May 29, 2013 J. P. Ricciardi sez "I never should have drafted him" JPR was very honest, now I respect him a little more.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 He's been okay though, from 2010-2012 he hit .268/.321/.480 against righties. Admittedly, I only looked at 2011 and 2012 and he had sub .800 OPSs both those years, which would be fine for a CF or a SS who could field, but isn't particularly great for a platoon DH/1B.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 JPR was very honest, now I respect him a little more. He was? The "it's not a lie if we know the truth" guy? He sure talked a lot, but that's different than being honest.
