Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 I didnt say overall or for the entire season u idiot...I said at this very moment 3 games is not this very moment, too small a sample, if he goes 0 for tonight its meaningless and still hitting ,180. Wake me up when he's been hitting well for a few weeks. You cannot say he's hitting better then everyone except lind, JB based on 3 games idiot.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Gibbons said Lawrie apologized to team for Sunday's antics in meeting today before batting practice.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Adam Lind says Brett Lawrie was contrite for bringing attention to himself and team for wrong reasons.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Post the sources man! Davidi works hard to get quotes. How i make? Copy and paste the link?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Use the twitter inset thing. Every tweet has a number, you put that number in between [ tweet ] [ /tweet ] (without spaces) Thanks bro
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 lol @ 3 game= sample, you mental midget. It's not much worse than the 36g sample people have been using on these boards.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 If you get rid of the spaces in the [ tweet], [ /tweet] it will embed nicely. Northof49 only included the spaces so that it would not embed and you could see the text.
kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 It's not much worse than the 36g sample people have been using on these boards. A sample 12 times smaller is not much worse?
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 A sample 12 times smaller is not much worse? They both are insignificant and will be misconstrued. However if you want to look at current trends, like an impending hot streak, the last 3 games is probably more useful than the last 36.

While I agree that a 36 game sample is fairly insignificant, it's not nearly as egregious as drawing conclusions from a three game sample. I think trying to predict hot streaks is a pretty dubious undertaking regardless.

More to the point both sample are insignificant, 36 games is closer to significant than 3 but you really shouldn't draw conclusions from either.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 I don't think this is actually true. If someone actually looked in to it I'm sure you could find some sort of relationship between the previous 5 games performance and the next game. I highly doubt it would be a strong relationship though and probably just proves that both samples suck. Additionally I think they point of the post was more "Lawrie is showing improvement this week" and people jumped to the 36 game sample which, is where my comment stemmed from.
Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 A sample 12 times smaller is not much worse? this board is full of mental midgets.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 There is no such thing as a hot streak. A player plays to their talent level. Over a full season I completely agree. However the maxs/mins of the ebb and flow of performance can be described as hot/cold streaks in my opinion.

You and Lawrie must use the same baseball handbook.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 LOL, epic fail. And you just outed yourself as a 13 year old. Congratulations.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Amateur? How do I ascend the ranks to professional poster or do you mean professional e-arguer? Should I say things like LOL and epic? Perhaps I should start insulting people's intelligence at the drop of a pin, since that screams super cool, genius, e-thug and not massive inferiority complex, right?
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 this board is full of mental midgets. lol you don't even know what constitutes a foul ball
Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 lol you don't even know what constitutes a foul ball lol what? You still harping on that? I just repeated what tabs said during the game without in depth knowledge of the rule book, a momentary lapse of reason, i assume you're a perfect human? Also the personality of a knat and OCd to boot.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 After the fact yes. But if you have any series of independent events you'll see streaks. During those streaks, the event wasn't 'hot', it just happened. If we had two identical players Bautista and Batista who had the same talent and Bautista homered yesterday, today they'd have equal chance at homering. Absolutely agree there. However if a player has a few good weeks, perhaps a month how would you describe it other than a hot streak? A luck streak? You can call it whatever you want but they certainly exist.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 You get paid for your baseball knowledge? Who pays you, your mom? Is that how she justifies giving you allowance? Pro tip, if you want to get paid for your "baseball knowledge" (and be a pro!) I'd start by learning how to effectively communicate a thought.
