I dunno... Stroman was one of your picks, and that's about as legit as you can get...

Posted

x3 each

Sleeper: Smoral, Alford, Cole

Bust: No one in particular stands out... Labourt, Tellez and Lugo? Idk. No one really *stands out,* I'd say most of our prospects have pretty equal chances of busting. Alford obviously has higher than most but I think he'll do well.

New legit guy: Hoffman, Osuna, Castro

Lots of good choices for the first 8 guys. However, calling Jacob Anderson a bust is shameful, hurtful, and punishable by death.

So are we really doing this in a 2013 thread, or are we making a new one?

If someone makes a new thread for this, can they please call it something like "Sleepers, Busts and Studs" or "Sleepers, Busts and Breakouts" or basically anything that doesn't include the term "new legit guy"?

Breakouts: Hoffman, Pentecost, Osuna, Foley

Sleepers: Smoral, Labourt, Tellez, Boyd, Meza

Busts: Castro, Nay, Tirado, Alford

Why Hoffman and Osuna, do you mean top 50 prospect kind of breakout?

New legit guy:

Stroman (sure he was an early pick but he was also a signability guys too so there was reason to be skeptical. Results in AA do a lot to legitimize a prospect.)

Burns (really nice breakout in high A, best middle infield prospect at the moment although there could be a wave of them on the way)

Sleeper:

Deiferson Barreto (A guy with only two years in the Dominican Summer League on his résumé shouldn't be considered more than a deep sleeper but the dramatic improvement in walk rate is worthy of attention).

Michael De La Cruz (Another guy who spent most of the summer in the Dominican. He's 20 though and has looked awful so far in Rookie League so he may bust just as quickly as he broke out).

Emilio Guerrero (Raw infielders are a bit of a specialty for this club. Defense is questionable but it's been a nice offensive breakout)

Shane Dawson (Took a big step forward this year, looks great.)

Bust:

There were definitely dissapointments (slow progress for Sanchez, lost season for Osuna) but I don't know that anyone played himself out of prospect status this year. Dissapointments in the low minors are probably too early to dismiss but and there wasn't that much in the high minors. Deck didn't do worse than expected.

Not great. I was right about Stroman, wrong about Burns and went way too deep with my sleepers. I didn't pick a bust.

Here's my attempts for this year.

Busts: Since expectations are really high for all of them, I'm just going to be a Moogy level troll and put all the top 2014 draftees here, Hoffman, Pentecost, Reid-Foley and I'll throw in Alford too for good measure.

Sleeper: Evan Smith

Breakout: Taylor Cole, Matt Boyd, Juan Oramas

Comeback: Alberto Tirado (Nowhere to go but up right? Right?)

I was going to make one before the season started but as soon as I mentioned it in the prospect thread Ang took that as his cue to bump this thread, and here we are.

Posted

Breakouts: Alford, Hoffman, Travis (does he count?)

Sleepers: Hollon... Uhh... Griffin Murphy? Names I pull out of a hat?

Busts: Nothing springs to mind, I mostly wanted to post Breakouts...

It's a make-or-break year for Jake ;)

Yeah ok there with the Matt Smoral as a bust lmfao. Kid is 6'8" and just coming into his own. If it wasn't for the walks, he would've almost been unhittable last year after coming off a year where he had a 7.0+ ERA. Nobody talks about him...not even ranked in the teams top 15 according to mlb.com

I dont know if he'll be a top shelf starter due to a lack of an above average third pitch, but he could make for a very good reliever in the Andrew Miller mold.

and you want to talk s*** about my picks...I can talk just as much with yours you joke.

Every time you come on here, someone criticizes you, you freak the f*** out at them, then disappear for a few months. Good times.
