TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Isn't Sierra's BABIP kinda sky high? we're talking about a guy that's going to get to start 33% of the games at best potentially only for the next 15 days. Ride the hot bat, hope he's still smoking line drives for the few starts he'll have. Had an .815 OPS in the majors against lefties and .880 over the last three years in the minors. I might add he's actually hitting righties in Buffalo this year too. huge BABIP's cannot be sustained but a 25% LD rate shows he's making great contact, doesn't mean he won't have an big BABIP here too
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 "They" won't bring up anyone that may force "them" to own up to their mistakes.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 We're talking about a bench option, lol. And someone to platoon with Lind, which a Blanks/Guzman/Wells would be. He's a very Beane-easque player. He'll likely never be a starter, but can hit LHP, play some corner OF, run the bases, and be an important part of a well-managed team. He brings a lot more to the table than guys like Sierra/DeRosa etc.. Yeah, he definitely does. He'd be dirt-cheap to get, too, I assume, and his minor league stats are kinda faptastic lol. wRC+ over 135 most of the time. we're talking about a guy that's going to get to start 33% of the games at best potentially only for the next 15 days. If all he brings is the potential for good luck... we're better off with someone else. Jesus Guzman please. YES. Him or Freddy Sanchez are the two players I wanted platooning with Lind this offseason.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 You and Hurl are always so much more concerned about the 40-man than I am, lol. I'm perfectly happy to punt guys like Crawford, Redmond, Schwimmer, and Sierra from the roster the second it becomes even remotely convenient. Hey, Schwimmer could very well be useful. Crawford is pretty useless though, and Redmond too, although I'd keep Sierra for now in case.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 If we're talking guys on the 40-man - how about Mauro Gomez? I trust his bat a lot more than Sierra's. Eh, that leaves Boni as our only OF option off the bench, even though I'd pay an endless supply of monies to see Gomez in CF. The bat is there and he's our best internal option, but we could do better.
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Oh how I wanted Storey to pitch well tonight. I love my junkballers, a man who doesn't throw a fastball is a man after my own heart. Was anyone else mildly perturbed by Derosa's stonehands on everything near him tonight?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 We should be able to get by using 4 OF over the course of a 15-day DL stint. Does Bonifacio even count as an OF, though? He's scary out there. Didn't Shwimmer get DFA'd? No. He's on the 15 day DL. Quality RP.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Me and you are going to get along well. I think I was the only poster in jays forum history that actually liked Brad Mills, and Jamie Moyer may be my favourite pitcher of all time. Who the f*** likes Brad Mills? Seriously. He was such s***. I remember his 10 run first inning vs. Philly and Jason Werth hit that upper deck shot. Poor Cito just left the kid in. The look of woe on his face when he was lifted has never been matched by anyone, except for Ricky Romero.

I'm perfectly happy to punt guys like Crawford, Redmond, Schwimmer, and Sierra from the roster the second it becomes even remotely convenient. It just leads to more punts later though. I just think making a trade for a player to replace an injured bench player that we don't even know how serious it is, is a silly move. These guys being talked about are barely upgrades over Sierra and will need to be dumped when Rajai comes back. If the team is looking for a complete overhaul than yes maybe there are spots for some of these guys. Right now we have an entire team of players without options or who are absolutely needed. It's been poorly built and doesn't really apply itself to making a move such as trading for right handed bench piece to replace a DL player.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I think Schiwimmer was dfa'd and the Birds snagged Casper Wells, unless I dreamed it??? Meth. Not even once. I want to hit you so much right now. You have made a very powerful enemy on this day. Come at me brah. Do u evn lift f@git? Lol, if it makes you feel any better, he looked real nice in 5 IP last year. No xFIP under 5 besides that, though. So I did dream this s***, lol. Yep.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I love guys who only throw 90 mph but still get strikeouts because of command and good offspeed offerings. Jake Peavy's my favourite pitcher. Jake Peavy is awesome.

Hell I think it might be time for me to post a picture of me in my Aquilino Lopez jersey.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Misprint warning! yeah... rage blinding me from typing what I really wanted. lol you knew what I meant.
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 The bigger problem that the lack of options is the unbreakable promises made to DeRosa and Blanco. Those guys are zeros on the field and their clubhouse magic clearly isn't doing much. Two f***ing bums. Then again I think just as little of Rasmus and Arencibia. They have holes in their swings larger then my ex's taint.

Those guys are zeros on the field and their clubhouse magic clearly isn't doing much. DeRosa has been a suitable back up. problem is that Izturis and Boni and absolute s***, so DeRosa is getting more playing time than he should. at least Gibbons has figure out that Boni is a steaming pile and is not using him. hate the thought of him probably being forced to use him with Davis going down.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 I will add that I like Blanks and he's an upgrade on Sierra because of his versatility and ability to run and he has options for this year. I just don't see the Padres dealing him while he'll still be so cheap in arbitration.
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 It's soon time to see what Andy Burns can do in AA.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Yeah I knew what you meant, lol. it's late and I'm really getting tired of staying up all night to watch them s*** themselves, but cant get myself to not watch. kind of pathetic. most games there is at least something positive to gleam. Lester was great... other than that I was just glad when it was over. time for bed. at least tomorrows game is early. I need to get back on a regular clock for monday. need to do some real things. lol
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Izzy has stepped up bigtime, not sure how you can miss this? I guess we have differing opinions on the definition of stepped up.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Izzy has stepped up bigtime, not sure how you can miss this? his plate appearances have gotten better, but he throws like a 10 year old girl and until Reyes comes back the jays are carrying 3 guys who cant play replacement level SS.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Where we disagree is that I see guys like Blanks and Wells as useful 0.5-1.5 part-time options who can actually contribute to wins, and see Sierra as a half-tool player with very little chance of ever being above replacement level. Maybe we can even tell DeRosa to GTFO once Davis is back. Blanks and Wells are much more like Rajai than Sierra I'll say that much. I'd love to see Rajai go and be replaced with a cheaper younger version. Again it's mostly just a team built poorly. MDR could play like he did when he was 25 and I'd still say that was one of the worst signings ever. Not trading Bonifacio for Hanson (no matter how bad Hanson might be) is horrible non move.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Also, not that my opinion matters, but I hate PGT. It needlessly interrupts the discussion that usually flows pretty well after the game. It was fun during the winning streak and Admin has wanted it. I couldn't care less either way
admin Site Manager Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Closing this. We can vote on PGT. I used to hate them on other forums too, but now that I'm on the other end, they make sense. If you don't close one you have two posts going and identical conversations.
