Izturis isn't the problem. He can play short, rarely strikes out and that batting average is creeping up. Bonifacio can't play the infield and Rasmus, Melky, Bautista, Davis, Sierra and Gose are better outfield options. I just don't see the point of keeping a terrific athlete when he's so bad at baseball.

Izturis bat isn't hurting the team as much as it had, but the fact that he throws like a 10 year girl makes him a horrible middle infielder.

0 for 4 with a walk. I believe just his second game without a hit this season. Second or third anyway.

Now hitting .417

Negrych is kicking some butt in triple A ... but I think if anything we could use more pitching then we can another position player.

I say by July or August he will be up in the Majors.

... or unless Izturis and Bonifacio completely sh!t the bed.

With the exception of Sunday's game, Bonifacio has done nothing but s*** the bed.

Yeah, I'm not sure why Izturis should be the first guy on the DFA train. He can at least use a glove, which Emilio cannot, and sad though the comparison is, he's a better hitter.

Agree. He's *acceptable* and would remain an ideal IF utility backup guy if we acquire a legit 2B at any point

We need one of Davis or Bonifacio but both both and I prefer Rajai cause at least he hits lefties well.

My DFA list:

Bonifacio

Blanco

DeRosa

I'd be more interested in Tommy LaStella from Atlanta, even if it meant adding another piece. The Braves have shown interest in Boni.

I get where you're coming from and I do recall that. Bit of a difference between hitting .295 for Las Vegas in the PCL with a long swing and hitting over .400 in Buffalo, though both are 5-9 infielders.

I doubt they call him up now with Izturis showing improvement and even Bonifiasco having a couple decent games at the plate.

Who the f*** is Tommy LaStella? Is he a Negrych-like Kirk guy?

Edit: After looking the kid up he seems like a second division starter at best.. I really like the plate discipline, though, but he seems like BABIP-fueled kinda guy.

He's a 24 year-old who began the year in High-A. Being able to handle a bat and work a walk is a good skill to have, but it can't be the defining characteristic of your skillset. Pass.

Yeah, he's a Kirk guy.

He's a Braves top 10 prospect. He's also moving up that list. He's hardly a sleeper. I like him better because his hit skill is his biggest strength. This club lacks those players and has few in the organization. His midseason prospect ranking will have him way up from the 320s where he was a few months ago.

"Overall Future Potential: 5; second-division player"

I don't see why you want the kid.

Firstly, we were talking about getting something for Bonifacio. You aren't going to get a huge return. Even La Stella would cost more than just Boni. You have to be realistic. The kid I named is the #9 rated second baseman in all of minor league baseball. If you check a few other sources you will see him shooting up prospect lists. Some are now making Dan Uggla comparisons, while saying that La Stella's fielding has already improved past original expectations.

Understand that La Stella's fielding was the question mark. Everyone loves his bat.

I don't see why we couldn't get more than a kid who doesn't need a .355 BABIP to hit .300. He's #9 because the 2nd base crop SUCKS. Scooter Gennett and Corey Spangeberg are on that list too, no?

Dan Uggla? Jesus, I'm done.

I was quoting, not making the comparison.

The fact that you would even quote something like that is kinda ridiculous, though. I mean, you praise a contact hitter with a great hit tool, then compare him to an all power no average guy who strikes out over 20% of the time? Okay then.

Just relaying some of the opinions. I'll find the link. The point was simply that he is generally viewed as a player who will hit and stick at position and start at the big league level. Is that not preferable over Bonifacio?

For a 2nd division team. Isn't the kid basically Maicer Izturis?

I see no reason Bonifacio for Ruf/Blanks wouldn't go through.

We don't know what he is yet really. All prospects are like that. We just have an organization packed with toolsy athletes who lack a natural hit skill. Kids who hit line drive after line drive, take walks and don't strike out are not a bad thing. Sometimes they end up as AAA monsters, sometimes they become decent players and sometimes they become Tony Gwynn. It's just nice to have a natural hitter here and there.

I do think Blanks is too much to expect for Bonifacio. He's just too close in development and is a power bat.

the last real power bat we had come up through our ranks was Delgado.

I actually meant Ruf but the point is the same.

Ruf is a reach but I see no reason we couldn't get Blanks, he's an RHH Travis Snider lol.

Anyway, last night Negrych went 2-4 with a walk. He hit another double and had 2 RBI (for those who care about RBI).

Now hitting .414

He is not in the lineup this afternoon.
