Roy Oswalt should have been signed before the season. Dude had a 3.27 xFIP last year and was pretty much begging for work. For a team with no SP depth to speak of, it made perfect sense. Of course AA was scared away by his ERA.

A lot of people dont realize that you cant MAKE a FA sign. The FA is almost always in the drives seat. unless you are talking about the crap that AA keeps picking up.

But he cost himself money last year by waiting and waiting and letting it be known he essentially only wanted to play for the Rangers. And then bitched cause they used him mostly out of the bullpen.

 

He lost any leverage he had and had to accept a crap deal from the Rockies this year. Could we have had him for similar? Maybe, maybe not...

Lincoln is probably the best option if they want to make someone into a Carlos Villa type. Problem is Lincoln doesn't have a third pitch so he'd have to have very good command just to get through 5 innings.

 

But I'm sure AA isn't regreting not having Villa about for spot starts now...
