That's going to be a tough thing to do so early in the season, as I'd be surprsied if anyone but the Marlins and Astros are willing to sell. Which leaves us with the following possible options:

Bud Norris (28 - 3, arb2, arb3, FA)

Ricky Nolasco (30 - 11.5, FA)

Kevin Slowey (29, 750K, arb3, FA)

Nothing on that list is attractive. Norris will cost more than he's worth, and is a #5 starter in the AL. Nolasco won't come cheap, and will walk for nothing after the season, and paying sticker price for Slowey's weirdly good performance isn't an attractive option.

maybe there is a team that is desperate for a defensive CF? or extremely desperate for an infielder with lots of speed. lol

I think we're going to make an ill-advised move for Ricky Nolasco.

The Marlins are likely to just give him away to clear that payroll.

He's on pace to go 200 innings with a sub-4 ERA. They won't move give him away - that's a valuable commodity at the deadline.

He does have value, I am not discounting that, but the Marlins organization is a joke. If they can cut his payroll and stoop to a new low in the process, they will. I don't think it would take any kind of significant prospect to pry him away. Isn't he making like half the Marlins payroll this year? He is off to a pretty good start though, so that may raise the price a bit.

As much as their ownership is complete s***, their front office is actually pretty good. I could see two top-20 guys going to them in a deal - something like Nessy and Stilson maybe? Obviously not a huge loss, but I really want to stop the bleeding from the farm, and moving any relevant prospects for a rental while sitting many games under 0.500 won't sit well with me.

I would rather just hit the scrap heap at this point and see who we can get. I agree there is no point in further investing into this season at this point. If this team goes on a significant run then it becomes a different situation, but right now I really hope AA can show some restraint.

Stroman supposedly is ready as a reliever. If one of our relievers was thrust into the rotation, I'd support calling him up.

not sure Stroman needs that extra ego kicker... lol I think he could be amazing. use him as a long guy for a few months and stretch him out and then late this year or next spring slide him in as a starter.

Uh, Sanchez is getting traded for Chase Utley.

Unlikely. Utley actually fills a positional requirement for us. I think a redundant, past-his-prime Justin Morneau is a more likely target. #canada

@ShiDavidi: Walker says decision to bring Romero up first time was right given where he was and based on reports at time. Needs finishing touches in Buf

I'm still pulling hard for Romero to regain...something, but this seems farther away than "finishing touches".

something like Nessy and Stilson maybe?

Please, holy f***, no.

At this rate Stroman's going to throw 2 minor league games and then be in our rotation.

He's pretty MLB ready though
