Blue Jays First Home Run Contest Thread

New Playoffs Format

Round 1 (August 19th- 25th)

3rd-18th Place Players (total 19 members not including byes)

Round 2 (August 26th – September 1st)

Top 14 Players from round 1

Round 3 (September 2nd – 8th)

Top 8 Players from round 2

Semi Finals (September 9th - 15th)

Top 4 Players from round 3, 1st-2nd season place Byes

Championship (September 16th – 29th)

Top 2 Players from semi finals

All picks must be pm'd to me, which will all be posted at first pitch for everyone to see.

You can only select the same player 4 times during each round

You can make your picks in advanced if you will not be here that day or send your picks in each day.

Player point values will be fixed each round.

All ties go to the player with more points during the regular season.

Bonus points will be included during the playoffs, with a few changes.

ALL HOME RUNS WILL COUNT, NOT JUST THE FIRST ONE (+1 bonus for the first one)

Fixed unless there are any big changes such as injuries or new players added.

So we still just make our picks the day of the game before first pitch? We don't have to pick the entire week in advance correct?

I haven't even opened this thread all year, but this looks pretty neat. Are you guys doing prizes?

Kudos to Dylan for running the whole thing and adding something interesting to the board.

OT, but new board membership seems to have hit a wall. Flatlined at around ~500 members. I blame thehurl and his terrible twitter job.

It's up to you. You can make all your picks early for each round or each day. Just make sure to pm the picks.

and a reminder you can only select the same player 4 times each round.

I've enjoyed running it, it's slowed down since the jays have been so bad but the main 20 or so have kept it going. This year was more of a trial run but we will do it again next year.

No prizes this year but we can discuss prizes next year

Partially agree...

thehurl like AA, is terribly bad evaluating talent. Matt Harvey is a valuable asset in Twitter, if we hire him the number of members will duplicate (90% Arencibia fans)

It would be nice if we could set the competition up on a website or something, to relieve the overhead and stuff. Not sure what the rules are for using mlb player names for something like that though, even if there's no prize or advertising.

I'd suggest we have a locked stickied thread that is only updated with the points and people's picks after each game has started. (one post per day basically). All other bragging and stuff can be done in this thread.

I'd also suggest a no home runs option.

I think it would be best to keep everything in one thread. However, I will keep reposting current standings/daily lineups on each page so people don't have to go searching for them.

Also, I've added a no home run option for 1 point.
