Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Just watched Hoffman pitch in an extended spring game vs the Pirates. He pitched 2 innings, giving up 2 hits( one was a bloop single), no walks and struck out 4. His fastball sat around 93-94 but it was his first outing. I'm sure his velocity will go up. His strikeout pitch is a devastating curve. You're going to love this guy...lots of Jays brass out to watch him today. Even got him to sign a ball for me. You're a rock star. Thanks!!

tercet Verified Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Hoffman had an absurdly low strikeout rate in college. I don't think he will move as fast as everyone else thinks he will.
tercet Verified Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 When will he make his ML debut? Sept 16

glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 When will he make his ML debut? 3 weeks. The Jays may need another arm in the pen.
5minutesforframing Verified Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Wrong. Best strikeout rate in his division recently. Check out Blake Lively, Aaron Blair, and Austin Kubitza. Same division as Hoffman with worse stats and all dominated the minors last year. Don't mind if I do
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Blake Lively? Deadpool's wife? Well, I don't mean to brag...

glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Boyd is going to be in the Jays rotation at some point this season. His development will be important. Hopefully Travis' development (and Pillar's so far) will make the team appreciate the high floor talent a bit more.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Boyd outing 3 scoreless, walk, 6 K's, GB 3:1 FO
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Geez, that's an early start. Boyd outing 4IP, walk, 7 K's, GBO 4-1 FO Season: 8.1 IP, 3 walks, 16 K's
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 9.1 IP, 4 H, 18 K, 4 BB 18 K/9 with a WHIP under 1.00 is alright I guess...

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Boyd is done for today 5IP, 2 walks, 9 K's, GO 4-2 FO

Sorrow Verified Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 What's his projection at this point? Back end starter? I always think his issue was his breaking and off speed stuff not playing up when he was promoted though there's a great chance that I am wrong.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 What's his projection at this point? Back end starter? Scouts would probably put a role 45 on him and say that he might be able to carve out a career as a #5/swingman/LHRP. Projection systems would probably say that he could be a league average SP.
TRM Verified Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Could be higher. Steamer thinks he is already 1+ WAR. Sooo... Haven't followed this guy at all. How soon would it be reasonable to give him a ML shot. His stats look like they'd play a lot better than Sanchez as the 5 starter, at least for this season.

They could reasonably call him up tomorrow.
TRM Verified Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Was this the guy that JFaS and others wanted in the Pen to start the year? What's his repertoire? Why aren't we giving him a shot? So many questions.

So many questions. He was never pegged as a reliever. He's another prospect potentially crowding the 40 if he gets called up thought that's obviously a very minor concern compared to finding a viable 5th starter.
tercet Verified Member Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Why use three years? 9.62 last year was very very good for college. Im just using a larger sample size as I normally do in such cases.
