Davis is not hitting great, .218. As far as the 7th rounder is concerned? With new CBA, there is numerous guys drafted between rounds 4 through 10, where the answer is who cares what 7th rounder is batting from the 2012 draft. Seems cruel, but that is the reality.

Rounds 4-10 can be irrelevant talent. After that Rounds 11-40 are wide open. Tellez, Brentz, Borucki,....Latz?Houcke?.....

Question.. How is Barreto's defence and speed? I see he has 5 SB already. Is he a legit SB threat? Does he have an above average glove and arm? Thanks.

He's quick but he doesn't have the glove for shortstop

He has the glove for second but the footwork is ehh

Has plenty of range for center

IIRC the arm is fringe average but I could be totally wrong

So his glove doesn't play in the middle infield? Could he develop into a passable defensive second baseman if he has well above average offensive skills? I think our outfield will be crowded with talent in the next few years.

You could certainly get away with playing him at second. Just need to make sure he has the work ethic to make it work. He might develop into an average MLB glove at second (0.0 runs added). His bat will let him play anywhere, though.

Sorry.. Did you mean his arm doesn't play at short? Can his fielding play?

I don't know about his arm, honestly, someone else will know better. His glove probably won't play at short. But it might at second.

BP had a report on him last week (?). Said he had above average arm strength at short IIRC.

Arm strength + range = CF future

But he'd work at 2B too

The Deshields kinda fledibility

BA preseason.

With a track record of performance in international tournaments, Barreto was one of the most decorated Venezuelan players ever and one of the top international talents available in 2012. He signed for $1.45 million and made his stateside debut in 2013, earning a promotion to the Rookie-level Appalachian League for 15 games. Barreto has the tools to be an above-average hitter, with above-average bat speed, quick hands and a line-drive stroke. He is an aggressive, righthanded hitter with good pitch recognition and drives the ball to right field well. He has natural strength, a physical upper body and good natural leverage in his swing that could allow him to hit double-digit home runs and plenty of doubles. With athleticism, plus speed and a plus arm, Barreto is an up-the-middle player, though his long-term defensive destination is not determined. Currently a shortstop, he lacks elite defensive actions and footwork, but he will be given every opportunity to stay at short. Barreto has the potential to hit at the top of a lineup and become an impact regular. He likely will start 2014 in extended spring training, then return to the Appy League as an 18-year-old. He may wind up at second base or in center field if he moves out of the infield.

Sean Reid-Foley's on the GCL roster. With Hollon and Murphy not pitching and Brentz unable to throw strikes, it would be nice to have a 2014 Draft pitcher step up and do something exciting.

Brentz is a long time project like Smoral. Give these guys 4-6 years. Plus I doubt Foley stays healthy

Taylor Cole pitching right now, FB at 92 mph and getting quite a few swings and misses on the changeup according to the broadcasters. Not his best command at the moment, though.

Should be Norris' turn, yeah.

Seems like Taylor Cole's weakness is his breaking ball. Brevard County stacked their lineup with right-handers and they're the only team that can touch Cole in the FSL.

That's just speculation. I think it's likely his main focus was Pompey. I don't think Cole has built up trade value yet.

Lane Thomas with another double, now 2/3 with a 2B and a 3B on the day

Kid's looking good so far.

Last year's IFA signing Freddy Rodriguez with another hit today. Hitting .400 in limited at bats.

Cole has trade value of a PTBNL. He turns 25 years old in August and is in High A.

probably a player not to even get mentioned in any discussion outside of speculative chat forums.
