ace3113 Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 baseball-america-wednesday-chat-with-ben-badler Jeff (Calgary, Alberta): Floor/Ceiling question. Who helps the Jays more, Franklin Barreto or Dawel Lugo? Ben Badler: Barreto, on both counts, and I like Lugo. There’s no way Barreto stays at shortstop, but just about every scout I talk to who’s seen him, whether it’s this year or going back to his amateur days, comes away raving about his bat. If he didn’t have Lugo blocking him, I’m sure you could put him in the Midwest League now and he’d rake immediately.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I think this is probably the best spot for this... Chris Mellen @ChrisMellen 1m #BlueJays RHP Aaron Sanchez: FB 93-96, with hard run and heavy action; trouble staying on top of it; wild; CB 81-82, with depth/hard break. His prospect star is falling dat fastball command
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 baseball-america-wednesday-chat-with-ben-badler Here's to hoping Barreto burns through short season and getting a shot at Lansing this year and is able to start at Dunedin next year
ace3113 Verified Member Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/50555/mlb-insider-keith-law Jeff (Calgary, Alberta) I know you weren't as high on him as others coming out of the draft, but what have you heard about changes to Daniel Norris' delivery? The 2nd half of last year and the first half of this year seems to be enough to show a legitimate step in the right direction? Klaw (1:39 PM) Wrote about that this winter in the Jays' top 10. They did clean him up, get him more online, and the command started to improve last summer. Jeff (Calgary, Alberta) Is Mitch Nay hitting his way into top 100 consideration for next year? Klaw (2:07 PM) Obviously SSS is *still* the answer ... but I just checked Nay's stats. He has one home run, a .101 ISO, and isn't even walking in 10% of his PA. If you're going to ask me if a (corner) prospect is hitting his way into top 100 consideration, doesn't he have to, you know, hit? Ken (Philly ) How high of a ceiling does JP Crawford have ? Klaw (2:15 PM) I think he's a star. Top 5 shortstop in the majors.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 (edited) And he isn't even walking 10% holy s*** he's one walk short! So every batter that doesn't walk to the tune of 10% can't hit ? Really? Tell him Lawrie,Rasmus and Melky say hi! Guess they couldn't make the top 100 either! He only has one HR, Like all great hitters have to hit them to be a good hitter, what? At one HR he is only one behind for the team lead! Lol but has no mention that he has 7 doubles and a triple in that same time and sporting just under a 300 average! But he can't hit! Wtf talk about phoning it in. Edited May 10, 2014 by BigBounceyBlueBalls
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I think Laws point is being that he wants him to hit for more power. But nobody is hitting many long balls right now on that team! So is that whole team crap? Have conditions been a factor? As the pitching been that good in the division? And again hitting Hr does not make you a good hitter!
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 See Norris is rocking it again, he needs to be moved up! Challenged!
theblujay Verified Member Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 Pompey: 3-3 HR, BB and 2 SBs Norris: 4.2 4H 1ER 1BB 6K
theblujay Verified Member Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 Drabek with a good start (no walks): 6IP 5H 7K Pillar with two doubles and a HR
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Pompey: 3-3 HR, BB and. 2 SBs Norris: 4.2 4H 1ER 1BB 6K Nice to see a local kid in Pompey tearing it up. He has some serious tools, so here's hoping he continues to flourish. 2016 starting CF? If he continues at this pace, he may be moved up to New Hampshire by the end of June. If so, and he does well, it may be influential on whether or not Rasmus is offered a contract.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 That outfield is crazy good on that team as well not just Pompey! That said he maybe better then Gose ever will be even right now in triple a! Ya buddy!
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Pompey needs to be added to the 40 at the end of the year or else he will be rule 5 eligible. I could see some team taking him as a 4th outfield, his defense and speed could definitely play. He'll be added. Imagine him having a monster year and then losing him to the rule 5 and turning out to be a solid MLB player? AA would be shot.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Wtf! David purcey is still pitching! Wow
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 We need to protect Deck McGuire though. I heard he has more potential than Chris Sale. 4 above-average pitches, one of them ceiling to be plus.
theblujay Verified Member Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 HRs for Davis and Nay. Tirado with a decent start but still tons of walks. Pompey with another great game, promote the kid
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 HRs for Davis and Nay. Tirado with a decent start but still tons of walks. Pompey with another great game, promote the kid At this point I don't even care if Davis hits dingers, he has to get on base and put the ball in play
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 HRs for Davis and Nay. Tirado with a decent start but still tons of walks. Pompey with another great game, promote the kid Dalton Pompey is serious.
Caper Verified Member Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Why the hell would they pick up Kenny Wilson off waivers to play center in NH? Why not just promote Dalton?
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Why the hell would they pick up Kenny Wilson off waivers to play center in NH? Why not just promote Dalton? Them tools...I actually can't believe they put him on 40 man roster at the start of the year
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Why the hell would they pick up Kenny Wilson off waivers to play center in NH? Why not just promote Dalton? He needs a bit more time in Dunedin. Another 4-6 weeks minimum before he sees New Hampshire, no need to rush him.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 HRs for Davis and Nay. Tirado with a decent start but still tons of walks. Pompey with another great game, promote the kid Nay is the white Ben Revere.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Dalton Pompey is serious. What's he at 17 steals too? That whole teams outfield is hitting over 300 too! I think bounce Pompey all the way too triple a let's see what he can do! We might need him on the big club next year! Some how my gut says he does as good as Gose and maybe surpasses him. He has more power probably already! And May or may not have a better baseball IQ to boot.

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 everyone loves what Pompey is doing this year, but the guy is sitting on a .426 BABIP. Let him keep playing in high A.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Lol seriously, gut tells him Pompey may be better than Gose already but he's most likely never watched Pompey play before
Caper Verified Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 lol @ AAA I would have no problem with that at all. Even just to fail, it is completely worth it. The same should be done with young stud pitchers as well. Send them from rookie league or low A, all the way to AAA, for the sole purpose of showing them why they need to work on the things they do. Let them get shelled, let them go back educated.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 lol @ AAA Lol no more then Gose in the majors!
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Re: Dermody @HillmanChad 13m @KennedyMLB 90-91, decent slider change up around 80. Both times I've seen him his command has gotten better as game goes on. King see Tyler cole pitched another nice game tonight! Promotion soon?
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Lol seriously, gut tells him Pompey may be better than Gose already but he's most likely never watched Pompey play before True but I have seen reports posted on him! And I just hate wasting coaching on dead weight of which we have plenty of in buffalo! Plus challenge him, see what he is made of! Plus I believe he is rule 5 next year?
