Laika Community Moderator Posted January 17, 2015 Author Posted January 17, 2015 Why would North roster Owings past the cut? I like the House side of this. I'm seeing this as House for pick #15, mostly. Maybe Owings just lets North trade Lowrie if the opportunity arises... lots of people need shortstops.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I like Owings a bit, he's got some power. Could be a 15/15 guy in that park and should stick at SS, and maybe be a multi position dude.

House for a 1st rounder pre-cut is fair for both sides IMO.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 House really isn't that great for the DDL settings, lol. Successful overhype by North. Lol. He didn't overhype him at all. He wanted Owings. House was my idea.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Makes sense for both sides, but I like it for North in the end.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Makes sense for both sides, but I like it for North in the end. I like both Owings and House even though they both have flaws. I feel like the sizable pick upgrade makes it a win for him on paper but Owings was a redundant piece for me and I was short a healthy SP so I wasn't going to let haggling over pick value get in the way.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 Danny Santana is available if teams are looking for a SS - still is a solid bat for these settings and has some speed!
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 (edited) I'd spent the whole offseason trying to get a top shortstop to no success, so I figured taking a chance on an unestablished guy with a firm job made sense. I don't love Owings' core skills but his profile is reasonably built for fantasy. Losing House makes me sad but pitching depth isn't a concern for me at this point. KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Looks like I got in and out of the Tanner Roark game just at the right time. Got him for a pick from Spanky before the season and flipped him for Khrush Davis before the end.

Got him for a pick from Spanky before the season and flipped him for Khrush Davis before the end. The Nats actually have some experience with this. They buried John Lannan in AAA in 2012 after he had a good ERA year in 2011 and four straight decent back-end MLB seasons (nowhere near as good at pitching as Roark though). He demanded a trade, Nats never obliged, and they ended up non-tendering him after 2012. Considering they have Blake Treinen, Taylor Jordan, and AJ Cole (also Joe Ross in AA/AAA), I wonder if they'll take the different road and just trade Roark right now. Alternatively, make him a long reliever I guess. Fister, Stras aren't exactly pictures of health. People have long doubted Scherzer's mechanics. Gio throws a lot of breaking balls (less lately).

Although Davis' stock is down notably from this point last year.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Which pick was it for Roark? Pick 57.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Petition to have my division changed to Donair Division. Who's with me?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Petition to have my division changed to Donair Division. Who's with me? Is a donair a sandwich? That's questionable.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Is a donair a sandwich? That's questionable. Wraps are sandwichy, some would argue.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Wraps are sandwichy, some would argue. Then is a hot dog a sandwich? I don't think I want to open this can of worms.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 What are you guys gonna do next? Delete your recycling bin? This is a road best left untravelled.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Is there a fourth word for Donair/Doner, Shawarma, and Gyro? If so, and we have four words that mean the same thing, we could rename our divisions for vertical spit meat synonyms. If not, I suppose we could just name Boxy's division after Falafel.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Is a donair a sandwich? That's questionable. Doner is the way you cook the meat. That's like saying, is barbeque a sandwich.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Then is a hot dog a sandwich? I don't think I want to open this can of worms. I would agree on this. It's the type of issue that could potentially tear the league apart.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Doner is the way you cook the meat. That's like saying, is barbeque a sandwich. The donair's standard method of transportation is the gyro, which is a flatbread. That's not a true sandwich IMO, which must contain both an upper and lower bread, hinged or otherwise.

Got him for a pick from Spanky before the season and flipped him for Khrush Davis before the end. Nice, I still see Roark getting starts, especially if they move Zimm or Stras.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Pick 57. Why didn't you pick Jordan, dammit? The Nats still don't know what's wrong with his ghost arm injury?
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 The donair's standard method of transportation is the gyro, which is a flatbread. That's not a true sandwich IMO, which must contain both an upper and lower bread, hinged or otherwise. If a gyro is a sandwich then a folded pizza is a sandwich. I'm not sure we want to go there, as a culture. Here's a skill testing question - is an open faced "sandwich" with one slice of bread a sandwich? Or, is this just a misnomer?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 If a gyro is a sandwich then a folded pizza is a sandwich. Burritos too.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 If a gyro is a sandwich then a folded pizza is a sandwich. No, then it's New York style.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 No, then it's New York style. What, do we live in a world where squares can't be rectangles?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 What, do we live in a world where squares can't be rectangles? Sure, but I demand my Jewish culture be acknowledged. (Sorry, I'm edgy today after North "out-Jew'd" me)
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 How does one Jew out Jew another? I imagine you guys beyblade with your dradles, right?
