Laika Community Moderator Posted September 24, 2019 Author Posted September 24, 2019 So some unavoidable parts of the YEXIT would probably be: - same day transactions - the end of the waiver draft as we currently do it. this would likely change to one waiver claim day - a paid league or changes to the current way lineup locking works when DL players lose their DL status - stricter position eligibility rules in 2021, and in 2020 some sort of transition year where people can request commissioners change player eligibility Such a tough executive decision I have.

Why are you changing player eligibility, why no waiver draft, same day transactions? This is dumn!

The DL thing isn’t an issue with same-day transactions though. I don’t think it would have to be a paid league.

Same day transactions are terrible bleh..
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 why do ppl hate same day transactions again? I'm sure this has been explained to me, but I can never remember. It works great in my ESPN league. Wasn't it some sort of dumb Yahoo thing that made it not work well?

In Yahoo leagues you can’t add/drop if the dropped player has already played during the current day. I think in Fantrax if you do that it just makes the add/drop effective as of tomorrow.

(still not an official endorsement) fwiw, if all we're tracking on the sheet going forward is waiver picks, it really wouldn't be a big deal... unless your name is Hurl.

In Yahoo, the transaction takes place the next day (e.g. adds or drops) which is annoying. So for example, if I have someone on the DL and they get activated that day, I can't insert them into my lineup until the following day because when dropping a player, the transactions takes effect the next day.

I'll pay for the league and accept completely optional donations. Adding my two cents, I also don't understand why same day transactions are bad. Seems handy if your starter gets scratched unexpectedly.

I think more owners would just max their weekly adds consistently with same day transactions.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 I'll pay for the league and accept completely optional donations. I really can’t think of a reason why we’d need a paid league. With same-day transactions we could just force teams to activate DL’d players the same day they’re activated, because drops are instantaneous. That function is available with free leagues.

I'll look up some handy features and we can decide if it's worth it. League Insurance: Your league will always be protected. It will be backed up on our system every day, from the time your league has been fully paid for. Should the Commissioner ever make a mistake that cannot be corrected (like mistakenly undoing a draft), or for whatever reason you want, we will restore your entire league for you to any date upon request. That seems pretty nice, though I don't think we'd ever use it. This is the big one, though: Enforce Injured Reserve Removal: This feature will force team owners to remove players from the Injured Reserve slot (if used) once they become healthy. The timeframe in which they must do so will be predetermined by the Commissioner, and the penalty for failure to comply to this rule may be to automatically drop the player after a specified number of periods or to make the roster illegal after a specified number of periods. Otherwise, this has to be done manually.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 As a Yahoo! statement, same day transactions are bad for those who pay close attention to the nightly slate and waiver wire. Examples: - Player xxx gets injured and you want to race to sign the new player who immediately benefits. You can't do this with Yahoo! same day transactions as you have to wait until the next day when more people gain the same information. - Player xxx pitches a great start and his stock is trending up. Again, you can't beat everyone to the add, and have to wait until the next day where your likelihood of landing them drops. Not as bad in our league since the waiver wire is disgustingly shallow, but it's annoying in 10-12 team leagues. ESPECIALLY in basketball since playing time is everything and injuries open up a lot of value.

With free leagues you can set Injured Reserve Enforcement to 0 days. So you could prevent teams from making roster moves as soon as a player on the IR loses their red flag. This works because we'd also have same-day transactions. Player X loses his red flag at noon. The owner has his roster frozen. The owner drops a player at 12:30, activates the injured player, and sets his lineup.

I guess we can use a free league after all.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 So the same as Yahoo. Ok, that's fine. I guess we can use a free league after all. Yeah. Same as Yahoo, only with everything happening instantaneously instead of taking a day to process. A nice thing about this is that you no longer have to be aware of player activations the night before they're activated (which in some cases isn't possible because the team hasn't announced it). Just log in an hour before games start and make whatever changes you have to. I think same-day adds would also open up hitter streaming on Sundays, which could be interesting. Teams who don't exhaust their adds could replace benched players with guys in the lineup on Sunday if they're chasing counting stats instead of just eating the shallow roster for the day. I like that added piece of strategy. Surprise scratch due to injury? You can replace the player immediately.

Another issue I've come across: players who are on the farm on the sheet but in the majors currently (Gavin Lux, Derek Fisher, Brendan McKay, Anthony Kay, etc) do not have green flags and cant be stashed in the minors if i remember right.

Yeah, we might have to change the minors to be two way. I think there's an option to set the number of IP or AB for which they're still eligible for that. People could definitely abuse it, but it would make an interesting wrinkle.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 There's an option to change the position eligibility rules to anything you like. Yeah. Commissioner - Rosters - Preferences, and you can set the eligibility thresholds at whatever you want.

I don't think we'd have to make any changes. Commishes can force MiLB guys without green flags to the minors, and then they'd stay there until teams called them up. We could choose to have two-way minors, but it wouldn't be necessary.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 Ok, then I don't really see anything to bar the move tbh. Sounds like we'll have everything we currently have and much more with basically no downside. The UI looks a lot better these days, too.

You can set minor league eligibility to "any player can be put in a minors roster slot". I think that would make green flags irrelevant.

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2019 Posted September 27, 2019 So when are we going to start picking up our players in Fantrax? Do flagged players stick around from year to year? I wish they would in Yahoo.
