Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 and a rumor mill segment. North, get on that bro. I'm looking to trade Dioner Navarro for Kris Medlen.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Dinger you better do some power rankings for this league. We don't want to seem bush league compared to the BBDL. Here are the Week 1 PRs, keeping in mind these numbers are basically meaningless at this point. Blurb yourself. Team Name zBAT zPIT zTOT The True Cardinals 9.0 3.4 12.3 Los Osos Blancos 1.1 9.9 11.0 A 2nd Leg To Stanton 5.4 4.0 9.4 Twist and Trout 5.3 -0.1 5.2 The Butt Stallions 3.7 0.3 4.0 B.Inge Drinking -2.6 6.4 3.8 (insert clever name) -3.2 5.6 2.4 Burrito Boyz 1.3 -1.2 0.1 London Slayers 3.4 -3.4 0.0 The WAR Puigs 0.1 -0.5 -0.4 ISO Horny -0.9 0.0 -0.9 We Khrush Dingers -2.5 0.7 -1.8 BALCO Pharm Team -2.8 0.7 -2.1 Taijuan On! 0.4 -2.7 -2.3 The Lyon Tamer -1.4 -1.2 -2.6 Triple Hawpe Brewed! -1.7 -1.3 -3.0 Jurrasic Kats -5.3 2.1 -3.2 Georgia Peach -1.5 -4.9 -6.4 Bye Week 0.6 -9.3 -8.7 Gryffindor -8.4 -8.4 -16.8
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Maybe I should rename my team name to bye week 2
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Welp, I now more players on the DL than there are DL slots: Hisashi Iwakuma Doug Fister David Robertson Wilson Ramos Marco Scutaro Brian Wilson FML My Plan is almost complete.... MUAHAHAHA
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 You can't spell Scutaro without CUT!
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Take the division after my team gets crippled by injuries? Very wise plan IMO. More or less lol. I just need a couple more teams in the division to get crippled too before it can do that lol.

Expect War Puigs and North to trend upwards also. I imagine nearly everyone expects that top 5 and North and War Puigs to make the playoffs this season.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Are the power rankings based off projected ROS or past performance? I manipulate my roster for each matchup enough to throw off past performance measures and I imagine others do too. For example, I sat Kemp's two homer game to lock in OBP and started a lot of lesser starters late in the week for Ks and Wins.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Blah blah blah no one cares. lol. I'm not complaining, just saying you should take past-performance rankings with a grain of salt since they don't quite tell you how good teams have been in the past.
TRM Verified Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 No, but their record does and you're a paltry 8-6. What a peasant. Edit: A serf even, I daresay.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 No, but their record does and you're a paltry 8-6. Yep! I've sucked so far. In a large sample I think record is important on its own. That's all I'm getting at.
TRM Verified Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Yep! I've sucked so far. In a large sample I think record is important on its own. That's all I'm getting at. Don't worry North, you're gonna be an excellent #1 seed for the consolation playoffs!
TRM Verified Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 North missing the big boy playoffs would be so delicious. Unfortunately... 1. There isn't even actually a consolation playoffs when you have such a large league and an 8 team playoff. 2. I don't see that happening, especially given he has 2014 NL MVP Matt Kemp and 2014 NL Rookie of the Year Matt Davidson.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 North missing the big boy playoffs would be so delicious. The consolation playoffs are for losers of the first round of the 'big boy playoffs,' they're not for teams 9-20. Anyway, once you get in, anything can happen. It would just be bad luck if I lost and got into the consolations, nothing 'delicious.' Delicious would be my team falling apart and finishing 13th.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Week 1 was the Josh Hamilton show for the WAR Puigs. Hopefully he can keep it up, and Don Baylor helped him figure some things out. He was starting to look like one of the worst picks in the first 2 rounds of the original draft.
TRM Verified Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Just a league wide FYI, there's no better way to procrastinate writing 6 more pages for a "Leadership" paper by 5 pm then facilitate a little good natured North bash session.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 That's too bad. It would be nice if Boxy had something to play for every year. I'm 19th bro. My team is amazing.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 lol. I'm not complaining, just saying you should take past-performance rankings with a grain of salt since they don't quite tell you how good teams have been in the past. Did the "keeping in mind these numbers are basically meaningless at this point" part confuse you? Projecting ROS performance is even more useless and essentially a masturbatory exercise.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 That's too bad. It would be nice if Boxy had something to play for every year. If only Boxy was in the Monte Cristo Division. He'd probably have a good chance at winning that division.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Not meaningless...means that I came up against the wrong team this week. Yep, your pitching was 6 σ above the mean last week, 2nd best in the league.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 pick 56 available to anyone with a top-tier setup man available You like Dale Thayer?
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 8, 2014 Author Posted April 8, 2014 Yep, your pitching was 6 σ above the mean last week, 2nd best in the league. Definitely wasn't 6 standard deviations better than average. I think his overall st.dev would just be his zscore sum / 7 (seven categories).
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Also, after Moore gets TJS next week, I'll be in the market looking to add a SP.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Felix Doubront has gas-canned his last game for me. If any of you rebuilding teams want to take a chance on a 26 year old with a career 4.02 xFIP, he's yours for a pick. Pre-emptive STFU to Dinger. Looks like Porcello has finally pulled ahead for good
