If we stick with the Draft Room next year we will reduce windows significantly. There's really no excuse for not just pre-ranking players. 12 hour windows suck.

We should do this regardless honestly. 12 hour windows are awful.

It's far enough into the draft you can probably reduce it to 6 hours with a small overnight pause.

as a dude who was on vacay during one draft, I do understand the want for longer windows. Getting ready for a trip doesn't leave a ton of time for fantasy pre-work, and nobody wants to be on a short clock when they are trying to enjoy a trip. Especially if you have young kids like at least a handful of us do.

I'm not really against shortened windows, but just putting out the other side.

I just want to confirm. We cannot drop any prospects on our farm to make an additional slot if we have an expiring pick right?

Correct. Add/drops are prevented by Fantrax while the Draft Room is running.

We are only doing commissioner add/drops to help people if someone has come of the IL and needs to be activated, but those drops don't open up additional roster space. They also aren't even necessary now that I think of it, you can just leave the guy on the IL and activate them once the draft is over.

Can we drop guys if we trade for someone? Like acquiring a player for a pick.

no? i dunno. maybe. depends on what i had for lunch.

Speedy requested that I cut Yimi Garcia for him. He did not realize that it would take him to 27 players and that would prevent him from drafting prospects. He has six open minors spots and three more picks.

I cut Yimi because we are all figuring this out and there is no harm. He effectively just threw away his earlier pick.

I tried proposing a trade with a drop included as part of it and it wouldn't allow.

Not being able to do this makes draft room much less appealing

Really? Must be a premium option cause it happens in the FC.

I think using the Draft Room next year will be fine. We will be able to use some of the technical quirks we discovered this year to create a simple set of rules and avoid most of the hassle that happened this year (which wasn't even that bad).

Plus we'll have a full draft, people will be far more engaged. We all did a good job in this league, if more people line up their queue, we can fly through these drafts.

I am thinking of 3 hour windows next year too. The expectation is that people will either set up a queue or be available within three hours after their email notification.

3 hour windows if we use the draft room sounds good.

Yes, please.

with a prospect draft these shorter windows are even more viable. I find queues are a pain in the ass in a major league drafts because one pick can greatly affect your next, but this just isn't that relevant in a prospect draft (especially in the MLB)

In fairness though, DDL has been kicking ass. We're almost up to round 6 already.

Yeah we are doing fine.

We could have 3, 12, or 24 hour windows and it would not have a massive effect on total draft time.

It's mostly the annoyance of watching someone burn 7 prime time hours in a prospect draft when they could have just added a few guys to their queue and clicked the button to auto-draft exactly one pick.

Here are my initial thoughts for next NPD:

- We will use the draft room

- Windows will be somewhere between 3 and 6 hours. No overnight pause. The expectation is that people will use auto-draft if they have a pick upcoming or will just be ready to pop in.

- At the start of the draft you should have a maximum of 26 MLB players and as many open spots on the MiLB roster as picks you want to use. It is legal to draft a prospect straight to your MLB roster so you may go into the draft with less than 26 MLB players.

- If you might trade for draft picks during the draft you might want to go into the draft with even more open spots. Fantrax locks all add/drops during the draft and commissioners won't force a drop for you because you want to make a trade.

- If someone comes off the IL in real life during the draft, just leave them on your IL. You can fix your roster after the draft.

- We temporarily expand rosters to 27 so you have one flex spot in which to draft your prospects. You should then demote them immediately. Commissioners will force demote actual prospects (no MLB experience) who have no green flag.

- It is legal to draft a player with MLB experience during the draft. Not sure why you would, but you can.

- If you draft an MLB player and that clogs up your roster (i.e., they fill your 27th spot) you are s*** out of luck. The commissioners won't drop someone for you so you can draft prospects with your next picks.

- If your clock starts to run and you have a full farm + 26 MLB players there is no official trade window for the pick and a commissioner may skip the pick as soon as your clock starts.

- If you do not have a full roster there is a 30 minute trade window on picks.
