I read so many articles out of NY in February talking about how the 2B job was Gleyber Torres' to lose... and I just wondered what those writers were smoking, and if they'd ever watched a baseball season before.

Do we have to modify the schedule at all prior to the season or do we just let Yahoo do its thing? I somehow remember this happening, but maybe that was in another league.

We modified it in the past (not sure if we did it last year or not) so that teams who faced each other twice were about evenly matched.

 

I'm personally fine with a random schedule.

It was modified so that the teams we play twice are intra-divisional. Makes the standings more meaningful.

We've tweaked it most years. Not sure if we did last year.

so it doesn't look quite perfect, but in any case, we should formalize how the schedule is made.

I will take this responsibility on, but I'd like to have a way it is consistently done.

 

We obviously want the 'double up' weeks to be against division rivals, but do we then want a way to track who you are getting 2 matchups against each year. That would just mean you double up against the other two teams in your division each other year

Honestly you can do whatever you think makes sense.

 

As the table illustrates, you can't make everybody play a divisional rival twice because we don't have an even # of teams in the division.

Ex., Team E has to play F (different division) as their second double-up.

If we wanted to force E to play A, B, or C as their second double-up, then A, B, or C would be playing a divisional rival for three double ups AND they would have to not play a specific team in the league that year.

 

Am I wrong about that? Maybe I am. I don't know.

 

So Yahoo seems to optimize it automatically now. Just not between years.

Ok all here is how I'd like to codify the schedule rules

 

Season length dictates that each time will play each opposing team once in a season. Each year a team will play two opponents in their division an additional week in 'Rivalry Weeks'. Rivalry weeks will be the first week and last weeks of the season. A teams opponents for these rivalry weeks will switch yearly between the opponents in their division. This schedule information will be tracked on the Google Doc.
