That was an MLB 4th, much different than a comp pick in an MILB draft?

Nah, he was a DDL MiLB pick. Dinger was joking though.

No, he was a 4th round MiLB pick. This league is getting old.

Maybe we should comp a 4th rd pick, since that's what Ventura was.

seems light to me as it ignores prospect attrition. The fact that he made it (and put up some good seasons) suggests to me that he is worth more.

With DD, Hurl, and my vote, we are past the threshold of voting based on what NJH put forward (an odd number of voters from the pool of BTS, DD, Hurl, KK, Boxy, Myself).

So with that (presumably?) confirmed, lets hammer out the exact comp. I think on the MiLB pick side, the range is between 21 and something like 80? (equivalent to a low 4th rounder). We could offer him a choice of MiLB pick or Waiver pick.

What are everyone's thoughts?

I'd say a pick between 21 and 41 is the range I would be comfortable. I'd probably say a bit higher if we are talking waiver as all those players were non-keepers and no choice international talent will be left at pick 10. So something like 10-30 on the waiver side would be the range I'd be comfortable in.

Would Ventura have gone #1 in the waiver draft if he was cut? This is a weak year, so there's a decent chance. Maybe Thames would go ahead of him.

Derp... I was looking at the BORED draft, he went 120 or something like that.

If you're going to go the compensation route, I think it has to be a pick at the end of the first round (MiLB), because if it's any later it's not worth anything anyway and there's no reason to even bother. So given that the 'compensation' side appears to have won, I vote for pick 20b.

Not sure how I feel about assigning a waiver pick. People have proceeded all offseason as though the top waiver picks have a distinct value based on the 1-2 guys projected to be available. I don't think you can mess with that now by giving a pick at he very top of the waiver draft. To me, 20b MiLB is the solution that provides the most value while stepping on the fewest number of toes.

I am just kidding, I would have given a 2nd rounder for him. Maybe a late first. 20B is still the most logical for me.

20 B sounds right in the 20 team leagues and a mid first in LoD, I know you're not there anymore... :P

yeah, may as well leave it open for the day in case Hurl or KK want to chime in, but it seems like 20B is the front runner.

Seems like even more of a reason for Breaking Blue to become a dynasty league ranking site. Would be a lot easier to project value of the dead.

I still believe that 41 is the number for this.

Yeah, not that I want to get into a ranking exercise, but if you had all players ranked as keepers, you could tie compensation to that. For ex, a Top 20 player gets two 1st round picks, a Top 100 player gets a 20B, a Top 200 player gets a 40B, beyond that you get nothing. Of course, we'd never be able to agree on rankings anyway, so I guess it's moot.

Food for thought... if the compensation in the LoD ends up as a sandwich pick, the compensation here should be 40 B, etc... in that league he has much more value, as you guys know.

*feels s*****, talking about this*

DDL is the precedent setter of the leagues.

Meh, let each league do their own thing. I don't think we have to reconcile DDL compensation with LoD compensation. Also, I'm tired of discussing the value of a guy who died.

Looks like early Feb based on the dates from PB's posts.

We could put a note about draft dates in the rules section of the doc to avoid having to figure this out every year :P

How soon after yahoo opens do we usually do the waiver draft?

I think we normally do cutdown deadline for a Sunday night, second or third week of Feb. Waiver draft starts like 24-48 hours after that deadline.

It typically just depends on when I and other admins have time, since there is some manual work with roster input.

I really don't care much about the difference between 20B and 40B. Precedent suggests that the likelihood of hitting on the pick is the same. If push comes to shove, I'd guess I'd go with 40B just to leave some wiggle room if this were to happen to someone slightly better than Ventura but still not elite (which isn't exactly a huge concern either).
