z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 yeah I'd take Bum every day of the week. Nice deal'n TCA
TRM Verified Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I absolutely love a three-way where only one dude knows it's a three-way. Sneaky. Kudos, TCA. Well, I mean... it's not like I didn't know it was happening.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 IMO Bumgarner > Marte > Strasburg IMO Bumgarner >= Strasburg >>> Marte I consistently see Marte going in the top 40 in dynasty drafts, and I wouldn't pay that sticker price.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Well, I mean... it's not like I didn't know it was happening. Well then you should have PMed jaysblue and offered him Bumgarner for Marte + a bit of gravy.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 This really begs the question of whether jaysblue knew Min was involved or not. Had no idea.
TRM Verified Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Well then you should have PMed jaysblue and offered him Bumgarner for Marte + a bit of gravy. Probably, but I'm at work and I also believe(d) that Marte > Bumgarner as an asset and I didn't want TCA to flake.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Everyone loves to dote on MadBum, but he quietly lost 1.2 MPH this year. It was right from the start of the season, and it's part of the reason I was willing to part with him. Something to watch going forward. He could conceivably dip below 90 MPH avg in 2017.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Probably, but I'm at work and I also believe(d) that Marte > Bumgarner as an asset and I didn't want TCA to flake. True, they're both pretty flaky in general. Sometimes you just gotta close a deal when it's there.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Weird that Strasburg gets traded in two different leagues on the same day.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Nice work by you to ditch Strasburg and his extensive injury history for the safety of MadBum. I've never been high on Starling Marte so I like Min's end the least on this one. I just don't see the big deal with Marte, you're getting like an .800 OPS with 15 HR. Steals are nice but I expect them to start decling sharply any year now, and he doesn't walk. His profile scares me in a Carl Crawford way (although peak Crawford was a fantasy monster). This kind of was on the back of my mind as well. Plus with this being an .OBP league, it hurts his value slightly in comparison to the standard 5x5 leagues. Don't think he'll be a main power threat like in 2015 again as well. Still he's a solid all-around player to own and his CF eligibility is a huge plus. I've been trying to shop for a No. 1 starter and had no luck. Even put Marte on the block numerous times and wasn't getting offered anything. Heck, even if I wanted Chris Sale from you it would have cost Nolan Arenado, so I'd rather go this route.

Yeah, I wasn't going to part with him for Marte. You did well to get a legit ace for him, and if I were you, I would have preferred to keep Arenado over Marte too (easily).
TRM Verified Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Gardner, Beltran, Saunders or Gordon OTB for a pitcher.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Despite protesting publically, I privately agreed with your concern that you raised throughout the season. So in the end you swapped A.J. Pollock and Felix Hernandez for Marte. Not bad considering the first two guys could be substantially broken. If healthy, Pollock and Marte are probably very similar, but nobody is losing sleep over Felix these days.
TRM Verified Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I would have preferred to keep Arenado over Marte too (easily). Definitely
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 True, they're both pretty flaky in general. Sometimes you just gotta close a deal when it's there. TCA could have actually had Freddie Freeman last June/July for Stras, though he left the discussion table and never heard back. I think it's been almost over a year we've been trying to work out a deal that involved Stras lol. We come so close, then something stalls and it gets forgotten. Kind of the same with this deal. I think I threw this idea by him back in October and it wasn't going anywhere. I just threw the idea by him again just the other day.

Alex Gordon is still probably something hopefully
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Alex Gordon is still probably something hopefully Don't make me lol
TRM Verified Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Don't make me lol I'm a natural comedian
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Gardner, Beltran, Saunders or Gordon OTB for a pitcher. Send me a PM, or shall TCA be the middle man again?
TRM Verified Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Send me a PM, or shall TCA be the middle man again? If we wait 6 hours or so, we can probably take advantage of him in a way that benefits us both
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Keon Broxton is better than all those guys
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Keon Broxton is better than all those guys I'd consider rolling the dice on him in this league now.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 IMO, healthy Strasburg > Bumgarner > Marte, but since that isn't really the case I'd go Bumgarner > Strasburg > Marte. Although perhaps we should be weary of pitchers who have been workhorses from an early age, if guys like Felix, Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and James Shields are any indication.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 IMO, healthy Strasburg > Bumgarner > Marte, but since that isn't really the case I'd go Bumgarner > Strasburg > Marte. Although perhaps we should be weary of pitchers who have been workhorses from an early age, if guys like Felix, Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and James Shields are any indication. Halladay's issue wasn't baseball related. Lee and Shields were both approaching their mid-30s before they had issues, and Bumgarner is a number of years away from that. Felix could be a valid indicator, although his high reliance on off-speed pitches could be at least as large a factor as the innings count.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 6, 2017 Author Posted January 6, 2017 Well then you should have PMed jaysblue and offered him Bumgarner for Marte + a bit of gravy. jaysblue adding gravy to a trade? Not if I know him. In fact he'd probably try to ask for Bumgarner + gravy just because.
